Does anyone know if any ISPs out there offer any sort of monthly add-on to give you access to an engineer if all goes wrong? I'm thinking a bit like the Sky Repair Plan for their dishes and set top boxes, but for all things broadband.

You should learn how to back up your files, format the computer and reinstall programs. It's a lot less hassle doing it yourself.
