Re: HALIFAX OFFERING £100; TO SWITCH TO THERE CURRENT ACCOUNT

    Thanks
As said i need both UK & Off Shore Bank whilst travelling around France this yr looking for property.

    I saw this below:---Guardian=Quoted===
However, there is a little-known way of moving money abroad quickly and cheaply. A few banks treat transfers to overseas branches in the same way as moving money between UK branches. Both Citibank and Halifax/Bank of Scotland (HBOS) allow you to transfer money from the UK to their foreign branches without any fees or foreign exchange commission.

And so Halifax/BOS offers (for me) good interest rates both UK and Off Shore. We all have different needs??

So Back to Bank Monday to get another account to collect £100 also. I had started already to open/transfer, so wil cancel and restart to collect £100.

    Thanks for helps J

Dear jeanmike - Have you looked at Barclays current range of current accounts? If not I don't think it would waste your time to have a look. Regards, Fedora.

Yes thats right, switch from Monday to march 23- to get £100; And its increasing its high interest current account to six - sounds okay. yes they all have t o compete.

Article= mirror/money - jan 31. discused Halifax, HSBC, A & L. and said halifax package must rate as best buy- off course i belive it depends on individual needs for your account.

Re: HALIFAX OFFERING £100; TO SWITCH TO THERE CURRENT ACCOUNT

Sadly not unless I've missed something - it's the HIGH INTEREST HALIFAX CURRENT ACCOUNT that offers 6.17% on credit balances. Now I wonder if that's to put them at the top of a chart somewhere... A&L is 6.1%.

Ah just 'edited' this. The 6.1...% is a bit of a red herring if you get a decent overdraft for a year at 0%. You invest 'the overdraft' in say currently the best online easy access rate of 5.7%. I hate to recommend but I have had a very good experience with A&L having started the switching process last October. HAVING SAID THAT you're not going to get rich on this or Halifax's £100 unless you put it on the Lotto and your number comes up! All the best, Fedora.

ps Just edited this for a second time - clearly I am gifted with instant lack of recall. Still all in a good cause.

Fedora:Don't tell me Landshark, you woke up hungry, Couldn't find anything moving that you could eat so snapped at Jeanmike. It's worth drawing people's attention to. One thing to mention is that you get no interest when you're in credit. With Alliance & Leicester the 6.1% up to £2,500 is now only 0.4% above the best rate on an online saver so if you get a decent overdraft you are better off to use as much of the o/d as possible putting that deficit into a high interest account. However the interesting thing with A&L is that after year one of 6.1% apart from a very reasonably priced o/d it promises to pay 1% below base rate on balances. Halifax has some charm over the short term but to most people a current account is a long term proposition

Ooh look a small animal... snap it up dear boy!

    Hi
    thanks for your reply

Ive just read again and believe you get 6% interest when in credit. Unless ive missed something. I suppose ppl have to go with a selection of bank accounts that suit there needs at end of day.

I need a bank that has offshore also - and halifax does with little transfers charges. so hopefully it will suit.

    Landshark:Big deal!

Only if you pay in at least £1,000 each month and with other Ts and Cs so what's the point - do you work for them by chance?

    Oh Dear?

Yes - well my husband and I can put in the money each month. I dont no what Ts & Cs Are ??

Hopefully it will pay more for us than our Present Bank (IF) and it will be usefull for us when we open offshore to eliminate some transfer charge.

Lastly I dont work i retired on ill health . So maybe you should "well say no more" ??
