    Re: Over 60's fixed rates

    Hi,

These tarriffs can be great but can also work out a lot more exspensive. Your supplier should still be keeping a record of meter readings for your property so if you call them they can give this to you. You can then use this web site to compare tarrifs with other suppliers.

Most companys can compare your usage with there other tarrifs and tell you if they have a cheaper option. It just depends if you get someone that wants to be helpfull!

    Re: Over 60's fixed rates

I have been with Staywarm for the over 60's for the past few years. This year they said I had used so much gas/electric that I was to be charged an increase to £133 per month. The letter they sent gave me the amounts of energy we had been using for the previous year so I am able to compare with other suppliers. Two people living here in a detached 3 b/r house with good insulation to walls and loft, fully double glazed. We have an old warm air heater which heats up the house but I think is inefficient. Would it pay us to change our heating system or are there more efficient warm air heaters on the market now?

    Over 60's fixed rates

4 years ago I signed up for a tariff that was for the over 50's (this was later altered to over 60's)This tariff had a fixed price which depended on the number of bedrooms and occupants of the property and promised unlimited usage of gas and electricity,up to quite a high limit. At the time I signed up the payment was approximately £20 cheaper. No bills are sent out and as long as you stay within its limits there are no penalties.

The last increase came about at the end of August and as I have a 4 bedroom house with 3 occupants the price is £162.53 per month. This is an increase of almost £37.

Because I receive no bills and have not kept an account of usage I have nothing to compare aginst other tariffs. My mother is on a similar scheme with a different supplier and she compares her gas and electric usage with a neighbour, and at the moment her's is cheaper.Because my neghbours are at work all day while I am at home our useage is different.1has a charge only slightly cheaper while another is almost halved.

I live in a 4 bed semi-detatched Victorian villa built of stone and brick with a slate roof.Heating is provided through a 20yr old combi boiler and the attic was last insulated 15 years ago with what was then the recommended thickness.
