Quick poll - When did you switch the heating on?

For the first time since March this year the heating (controlled by a room stat) switched itself on.

The thermostat was showing 19 degrees and so switched the boiler on and got it back upto 20 degrees, must of been on for a max 2 hours, there are friends of ours who have had the heating on since early September and some even earlier.

We have a 4 bed 1960s semi with 170mm of loft insulation and cavity wall insulation, even though the heating came on I still do not find it cold tonight.

How is everyone else bearing up?

    Hi,

I've got a wood/coal burning stove.. no gas bill for me :)

Seriously tho, you seem to have good insulation there which will help considerably.. Although you may not need them yourself, there are grants towards, or even free, insulation available thru goverment programmes. The link below will give you more details.

Besides the reason these were originally set up (to combat climate change and meet the UK kyoto targets) you also stand to save a fair bit of money in the long term.

These grants and free offers are funded by energy suppliers, not your taxes. They stand to invest around £1B in the next few years on this so you may as well get your share, and save some money.

Re: Quick poll - When did you switch the heating on?

I have a 3 bed 50s semi with loft and cavity wall insulation, I put my winter settings in about 3 weeks ago since then I have had a few days were it hasnt come on. This week it has been on and off all day every day. That could have something to do with the fact that I have a golf club opposite then Liverpool Bay so when we get a north westerly gale as we have now then you dont want to open the front door.
