Re: Insurance that covers collapse of airline / operator

My Daughter has just bought flight only tickets on Easyjet and paid with her Visa Debit card. She is now looking for travel insurance to cover her in case Easyjet go under between now and her flight in December. From your previous reply, some policies provide cover for Scheduled Airline failure. Is Easyjet a Scheduled Airline? If not, what cover can she obtain to cover her?

Thanks Peter (and conmankiller!)- it's a package holiday through Olympic AND I booked it on my credit card so I guess we are covered. Thanks so much for your advice - much appreciated.

    Hi Laura

Of the insurers on our panel, Insurefor.com and Post office offer Scheduled Airline Failure cover as standard and Swiftcover offer it as an optional extra.

Have you booked separate flights/hotels or have you booked a package holiday. If its the latter then you are covered should anything happen to your airline, but unfortunately there is no cover if you have booked separately. If you have booked separately did you pay on a credit card, if so then you are covered under Section 75 of the consumer credit act.

    Hope this helps
    Peter

Laura -- Pay for the flights directly to the airline by credit card, that way if the airline collapses you would at least be able to reclaim from the card issuer under the consumer credit act 1974.

Note the payment has to be direct from your card to the airline, then the contract exists between yourself, the airline and the credit card company.

Insurance that covers collapse of airline / operator

    Hi

I'm travelling to Cyprus in 2 weeks and have bought insurance for me and my daughter but it excludes the event of the airline / operator collapsing. In light of recent events (XL collapse) I wanted some advice on what policy I need and which companies offer it at what cost. Tried to trawl through the small print of a few of the comparison quotes but it's taking ages!

    Any advice much appreciated.

    Laura
