I'm about to move into a house for 9 months and need to find a landline contract for 9 months for our broadband.

I'm sure I read in the paper that there was a provider where their contract was 6months+ but i can't seem to find it now, and everyone else just as 12month+ contracts.
Just managed to disconnect from BT today from our previous student house as they were going to charge us £70 if we disconnected before 12months were up, so had to wait for an extra 3months, and they said they were still going to charge a disconnecting fee! outrageous. British Telecom? More like Bloody Thieves!

Plusnet, Post Office, Your Calls, first:telecom, Toucan are five for a start that offer monthly contracts. Others are available.

You may, of course, require a connection fee of £110 to £125 as well.

BT said they would charge me also for leaving after 9 months. Internet + phone. However, that was 6 monthsago and still they havent taken anything. Perhaps its just an empty threat.

One other possibility could be mobile broadband, which at the moment is a growing market. The contracts I have seen are for a minimum 12 months, but as long as you up-date the address with the supplier if you move, you can take it with you. The downside is that there are caps on usage. The basic packages are around 3 gigs a month (vodafone who I am with quote this as being 100 hours of surfing a month). This is more than adequate for what I need.
