    Re: orange mac code

A quick update to my situation.

The Friday of my disconnection came & went with nothing happening. Figuring that they probably just weren't very efficient & it would probably just be a matter of time I canceled their direct debit. The following Wednesday I received an email from them saying that my payment details needed updating.I then managed to get through to them on the phone (must be the only ISP that doesn't have any form of email contact) on Friday afternoon to inquire what was going on. According the person on the phone as far as their computer was concerned there was no disconnection notice on my service & I was still a customer of theirs. Then that night at about 3am I was busy chatting away to a friend online when everything just died. Phoned them up again on Saturday to be told then that yes I had been cut off. Did get a date out of them for my line being cleared of the 21st May, so I'll just have to wait & see (I think that bit of the process is carried out by BT engineers, so should be more reliable).

Later that day I phoned up AOL, they were very helpful, signed me up to a months free trial on dialup there & then telling me to call them on the 21st to upgrade to broadband.

In conclusion though, in view of the fact that it took them a week longer to disconnect me than they first said I could have got a MAC code of them & done a seamless transfer so for anybody else reading this that has been fed the same *** from them about not needing a MAC code because they will be disconnected before the code can be sent out, phone them back & insist on one anyway just in case.

Can anyone tell me where & when this radio thing is or have I already missed it.

    Re: orange mac code

    Hi to everyone with problems

I know how you feel - I too have had problems and am still waiting for them to take tags off my line - therefore not able to have the proposed provider install the new service.  I have emailed the Radio programme as well - at this rate they will be bogged down with our emails - the more the better!!

I tried the OFCOM way and even emailed the finance part of the Mail on Sunday hoping that someone somewhere would be able to get some response from the nerds at Orange.  Their customer service is appalling and they seem to be trained to lie - cos all I have received is lie after lie.  Whatever happened to the 'customer is always right' - that is what I was told when I was younger and that is the way we worked back in the 70s and still do so today!!  Seems that orange customers are always wrong!!

My internet connection went down on 28th March and since then I must have spent at least £50+ in calls so know how everyone feels.  I am fortunate to have a cable line and after weeks of waiting for them to reconnect me due to some llu which never happened I went ahead and ordered the virgin package.  Orange gave me dial up for a short time - that was difficult as I had no computers that still worked with the telephone socket and had to resort to a very old laptop that was snail slow to start with.  Then they (orange) closed my account without giving me any notice - nice of them I might add.  I was still at that point waiting for my MAC code which I had asked for weeks previous.

Guess what the MAC code didn't work!!  Let's hope that the radio programme gets some sort of response - we are all happy to take part with quotes if need be.

    "biffo5013"

Did they give you more than 3 days notice?

Did you get any prior warning by email? When I phoned them they said I should have recieved a couple of emails last month which I didn't, their excuse being they've been having a few problems with their system.

As for whether or not you are going to need a MAC code I guess we'll both find out after Friday when we try to arrange something else?

I did phone Pipex and got assurance from them that they DON'T have an overall usage limit, just during peak times which seems fair to me.

    Re: orange mac code

So if Orange close your account and you have no Broadband connection.

Do you the need a MAC Code to sign up with another ISP ? ie, BT

My account is closed from the 4th May, so do I need a MAC Code ?

    Re: orange mac code

Today I received a letter from Orange informing me that they would close my account in 3 days time. I phoned them to ask for my MAC code only to be informed that it would take 5 days but since I am being cut off in 3 days I wouldn't need it.

On other words F**k you we're not going to give you a chance to migrate to another ISP for a seemless transfer but your going to have to wait for us to disconnect you before you can sign up with another ISP.

    Re: orange mac code

When you ask for your MAC code tell them they have 5 days by law to provide you with this code, which is true I got mine in three days, however only because I kept phoning them back, ps if your leaving orange and you are in credit on your account the only way you can get the funds from them is to leave your direct debit open, this I am very sceptical of, Id rarther lose the £5 I have in credit than give thenm any more of my hard earned cash.

    Re: orange mac code

I had exactly the same treatment, including the reference to an LLU setup. On the phone at my expense for 30 minutes at the national rate.
Our phone was being relocated across town in two days time and we would lose their broadband service at the current address anyway - but they told me I didn't need a MAC code and had to wait 30 days for their service to expire. No other ISP will act without the MAC code, so we faced up to 6 weeks without broadband.
Will complain to ofcom if code not forthcoming this week. Bad habits die hard.

    Re: orange mac code

I have got a mac code from orange, but only with difficulty: after requesting one, I was eventually transferred to some one who tried to persuade me not to switch, offering a free month etc. This failed to impress me as at that point I had been unable to connect for a week. Eventually said they would send one. After another week no code; rang. Initially told their systems were down; and that a mac code from an LLU setup would not work anyway. Threatened a complaint to ofcom and that seemed to work, mac code being provided next day... So be prepared for various obstructions and lies if you are unfortunate enough to be with orange and want to change.

Take a look at today's Times - http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/money/article1395122.ece - explains about MAC codes and changing broadband supplier

Yeah, mentioning OFCOM puts the fear of god into Broadband providers.

    Re: orange mac code

Threaten them with a letter to OFCOM if you don't get a MAC code that very day. That should get things moving. Worked for us ;)
