Car insurance claim - am I doomed?

    Hi all,

I am claiming against my husbands van insurance as in July he crashed into me. My car was classed as a total loss and a figure agreed.

12 phone calls and over a month later, they have now decided that as my husband is the registered keeper, something which I informed them of during the claim, he cannot claim against himself.

Even though minutes before they told me this they were on the phone to the garage asking for an invoice and they would settle direct!

Which leaves me with a garage bill to pay and no means of paying it!!

Has this happened to anyone else? What was the outcome?

Any advice as how to handle this situation

Have I only got myself to blame, and have learnt a very expensive lesson!

    Thanks

In my view, you shouldn't have started the claim. A successful claim now would mean loaded premiums for both of you over the next few years. If you can afford to settle the amount now, you should do so. The alternative is to be settling the amount via increased premiums over the next few years.
