long story but an ex took out alot of money in my name, no way to prove it wasnt me as this was whilst you could still fill in forms and get a cheque or card back with no trouble. he knew all my details and could fake my signature. screwed me well and truly! i used to have an amazing credit rating.. anyway fast forward 5-6 years and ive recently been able to get my first bank account in years!

I now have an abbey basic account with a cash card but what i REALLY want is a basic account with a debit card, or ideally a student account as i am a mature student.

What i was wondering is does anyone know whether abbey would have credit checked me for the basic account? i already have a savings account with in joint names with my partner.

Would this mean an internal check only for the account or in fact an open check? in which case i may try my luck at opening a bank account with a visa electron or the such like?
