    Re: Avoid Tiscali like plague

    Hi twnmare,
I am pleased you got everything sorted out, I had similair, problems not with Tiscali but Talk Talk they kept my mat code, or put something on the line for a year, I am intouch with Otelo telecommunications regulators, over this situation, I have also been with BT, you do get good service but some of there call centres are in India. I am with Tiscali, I will give them a go, they offer me no VAT on my phone calls, I can use Tiscalis line instead of BTs. The problem is that you have to pay, to talk to tiscali, if you have a problem this is probably how they keep the price down, it is cheaper than most companies. But needs to take notice of all the customers on this site who have not had good service, and apologise to them, and right the wrongs, and this definately goes out to Talk Talk.

    Re: Avoid Tiscali like plague

Least said the better. BT eventually received the order from Tiscali and started clearing the line and even then it took 3 days and numerous calls to BT to get the line cleared. That is over 5 weeks after Tiscali promised the line will be cleared. I cancelled with Tiscali on 18th Dec and the line was cleared late 26th Jan. Better late than never, I suppose. I am now awating my credit card statement to see what damage they have caused there.

    Now to the good news.

In the end, I went with BT - a case of once bitten twice shy. BT was a breath of fresh air. Once the order was placed they updated me constantly on the progress via e-mail and voice messages on my land line. The equipment arrived exactly 5 working days later just after 09:00 am and I had it up and running by 09:30 - a quick plug in job. For my money I get Ethernet as well as USB for Broadband and get another line for Broadband Talk. On the whole I think it is good bargain esp as we needed the 2nd line.(you get to choose the number as 056xxxx or your local area code xxxxxx).

So far so good. The connections has dropped 2 or 3 times a day. Power down and up has restored it. Speed is an average 900Kb. I haven't tried the support yet.

    Re: Avoid Tiscali like plague

Here here. I have called Tiscali at least 15 times since December 14th, we are now the 7th Feb and are no further forward.

There call centre said there was a fault on the line, no details given, and that it would be fixed in 7 days. Goodness gracious it still hasnt happened.

Each time I call I get told that there is a fault and that someone would call be back within 24 hours.

I have been cut off on at least four occasions after being put on hold for at least 5 minutes.

When I have requested to talk to a supervisor I have never been put through again just been cut off.

I do believe that Tiscali should rethink their call centre as there seems to be a terrible language barrier and total lack of continuity on handling any sort of problems.

In desperation today I called the "customer care" line believing that I warranted a bit of good old fashioned customer care and although the chap was polite (read scripted), he could also confirm that I had called on numerous occasions and could even quote me dates however he told that he couldnt help because this number was for only billing enquiries and not customer care ? I am now confused !
TISCALI I agree are a waste of time - AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

He did say that he would place me in the Technical queue and I would get a call back in three days -

Yes. Whatever internet firm you go with, Don't and i mean Don't touch TISCALI. I had major trouble obtaining a MAC code from them and in the end I had to swich to a fabulous firm called NTL:Telewest who will be becoming Virgin media. any tech issues with ntl:telewest is usually solved in hours rather than days. It might cost a bit but telewest are well worth it.

Tiscali are still trying to sting money of me to so you're not alone on that one, tiscali are by far the worst firm in this country.

    Good Luck!

    Re: Avoid Tiscali like plague

    Hi there,
I have just joined up with Tiscali, and hope everyhing is alright, the people who have replied to your e-mail are lucky they have had no problems, but when something does go wrong it is an absolute nightmare, as I found with Talk Talk, and no matter how many times you phone or get intouch you are ignored. As Tiscali have had some good support from these customers, they should sort this out for you, is it a mat code or marker left on your line, as from February these phone companies are suppose to remove them. So come on the experts and Tiscali sort this situation out for twnmare.

    Re: Avoid Tiscali like plague

    Hi
Same here, I have been with Tiscali for 2 year and no problems at all. I was with Bt and AOL, Bt was more off than on and AOL disconnected at least 4 times a day.
When i signed up with Tiscali they sent a BT engineer to check the internal wiring and found a fault which they repaired was fixed and no problems at all.
Why did BT or AOL never send an engineer.
My advice is stay clear of BT and AOL

    Re: Avoid Tiscali like plague

    Hi
Sorry to rock the boat but as far as I am concerned Tiscali have delivered exceptionally for me over the past 6 years from dial-up to broadband and now Tiscali talk and broadband I download huge files mainly music and video with no problems maybe you are the 1% of customers that have a problem.

2 of my friends that are using Tiscali had problems but when I went round to see them it was their settings and computer that was at fault and as soon as I corrected it they have been fine ever since. That was about 3 years ago

It isn`t always the ISP at fault mostly it is your personal settings on your pc

Can't help you with the line problem, but would just like to say I have been with BT Broadband for about 3-4 years now, they might not be the cheapest provider, but i have NEVER had a moments problem with them. Was thinking not so long ago about maybe trying to save some money and change, but I think after reading your message I will stay put! Hope you get it all sorted out soon.

    Avoid Tiscali like plague

Don't even touch them with even a very, very long barge pole. They cannot provide service, tech support is non-existent and what's worse, even the management does not give a damn.

I ordered their Broadband during first week in Dec 2006. A week later the equiment arrived but I could not get it to work. Tech support had no clue as to what was going on but decided to send me another CD saying the first one is probably corrupt. I got cheesed off trying to get it to work. They could not even tell me where I could download the software from except to say it was somewhere on their site. Anyway, I cancelled it on 18th Dec and nearly 4 weeks later the line has not been unbundled.

I have spent hours on the phone trying to get it resolved but nothing. They say they have submitted request to BT but BT claim they have received no such request. I was told it would take between 10 and 15 days for the line to be cleared. After 10 days when I phoned them, I was advised they will send another request to BT. Second time I was told the request returned an error 'Incorrect IRD'.
When questioned, engineer admitted having no clue as to what the error meant.

So, I asked 'how will the next submission succeed'. To which he replied, 'Oh, sometimes the request fails and then we just submit it again and then it goes through. What Joke! So, why did they not advise me of the error message earlier? 'Oh, we don't do that'. OK! So how do you know of the failure. 'Oh, when the customer rings' And then you log another call and wait for another 10 to 15 days for the customer to call you before you know of a failed request and then you log another call and then another 10 to 15 days cycle starts again. 'Yes'.

    Ah! That's a nice Merry-Go-Round.

I sent e-mail to complaints AT tiscali and 10 days later - no response. I have sent snail mail to the HQ but I don't expect anything in a hurry.

So, with Tiscali, it seems their slogan is, 'Can't Deliver and Don't Care'. I have spent most of my life in IT industry but I have never seen such arrogance.

Is there anything that can be done to get them to clear the line?

BTW, BT maintain they have received no request to clear the line.

Any suggestions on a good ISP for Broadband. I was thinking of Eclipse or Namesco but after Tiscali I am bending towards BT. Is this a good Idea?

    Thanks in advance.
