    Gap Insurance

Hi, I wonder if anyone can help.

We purchased our car back in November and was offered GAP Insurance to cover the shortfall in the finance should we have an accident. All is well and good but I have just read somewhere that GAP insurance only covers new cars for the first 3 years.

Our insurance does not state that anywhere but what is more worrying was that our car was 6 years old before we bought it in November. Have we been conned into buying this insurance.

    Re: Gap Insurance

GAP insurance is normally only available on newer cars but if the policy says it covers your car, then it will. You need to check the policy details.

    Re: Gap Insurance

Hi, it is with Welcome Finance.

I can't see a policy anywhere but it does state on the finance agreement together with a booklet.

    Re: Gap Insurance

Do you think that as we have it on the finance agreement they couldn't back out. Yes them and Carcraft would never go back there. Tried to sell us a car which didn't exist with the DVLA! No log book apparently. We even drove home in the car and when I checked on the computer and rang DVLA they said there was no such car so we speeded back up there. How on earth did we manage to get the 14 day free insurance with a dodgy car.

Thanks for your help once again.

    Re: Gap Insurance

Insurance companys would have no reason to query the dvla for details of the car unless a claim was made. This company is rough as they come along with close finance and direct auto finance. But if you have it in the very very small print they cant go back on it.

If it says the veichle must be under 3 years in it then advice them that they have misold you gap

    Re: Gap Insurance

Thanks for that, just checked our agreement and it is in big print so no backing out. We even have to pay interest on that as well. It looks like we pay it until we pay the car off.

Will go looking for the policy booklet though. My heart stopped when I saw somewhere in another thread that a car had to be nearly new and the policy only run for 3 years.
