    Re: compensation

    Nice one!

I once deducted £100 from an amount the Woolwich sent me in duplicate when I sold my house. Told them I was levying administration charges on them, as they had on me, and trusted that this would meet with their acceptance if not their approval. This was over 12 years ago!!

    Re: compensation

The final update for this is that I got an appointment with the new bank manager on Tuesday this week, explained my story to her and she siad she'd be chasing it up for me and speak to her line amanger about the compnsation and left a voicemail saying money would be in tomorrow.

Wed: Couldn't see money being refunded so popped in again to see her about , she said money was approved and it would be in overnight, Also that her line manager had offered me £100 in compensation, was that acceptable, confirmed that no £200 was more reasonable. She would take that back to her amanger and get back to me.

Thurs - today: Went to an ATM this morning and yes money has been returned. Bank manager phoned me this mornign to confirm that her line manager has agreed to the £200 and that it will be in my account overnight.

Result FINALLY but wouldn't wish this hastle on anyone (especially in the month of January!!)

    Re: compensation

Some banks have standard figures, others don't. If I were you, I'd prepare a bill for them, charging them for your lost time and including a penalty for sheer inconvenience.

    Re: compensation

I left banking eight years ago and even then, a compensation system for such errors had become fairly accepted.

I would try it. Put your complaint, clearly and concisely, in writing, and see what happens.

If you follow their complaints system to its end and they do not provide a satisfactory solution, then, once you have a letter from them stating that they are prepared to take it no further, you can then approach the Banking Ombusdman to look at the matter. but I doubt a set-up complaint would have to go that far.

    compensation

I'd love to say that I'll cut this story short but sorry can't!!.
I decided based on First Direct's annoucement to charge customers to go and get myself a new current account with some other bank. Chose to go to RBS on the 30th Nov and opened up a new account as thought this should be nice a simple and they do all the hard work of moving all my direct debits over and once all done I'll get the £100 that they advertise as a welcome!

Everything that could go wrong has gone wrong and what should have taken up to 14 days to complete, over a month later I'm still fighting them over.

Firstly my undertanding from the complaints department is that my branch didn't pass on my switching details to the switching department for 11 days after I signed the application form, as a result my wages went to my first direct account instead however they also said that they move any credits in my old account over so thought I was covered. Eh no...... on the 28th Dec the same day as the money was all meant move over, the direct debits started to come off but the money never moved over thereby putting me into an unauthorised overdrawn and other payment were declined. I eventually had to physically move the money out of first direct to RBS myself to try and stop any further charges being put on the account. The minute I did they wacked out the charges leaving me with barely nothing in the account to cover further direct debits that were due to also come off.

    1) They forgot to set up my overdraft
    2) They got digits in my customer number wrong, thereby today I still I can't look at my account online or do telephone banking till this error is corrected at the branch (for the second time I've phoned them and asked them to get this fixed).

They have agreed that yes they will try and get me my overdraft and will get me my charges back but 15 days after the first charge was appleid I am still waiting on this all happening!!

Am I entitled to some compensation from them for all this hastle over and above my charges being credited back to me whenever they do go back on?
