Sorry for the dramatic subject heading but I really want to warn people about carphoneware house and there so called "Lifeline" insurance policy.
I took out an Orange contract with Carphone Ware house last year for a U600. I took out the highest level of coverage with Lifeline and paid £29ish every 3 months for the privilege of there service. When I began this policy, the guy in store told me that after 6 months I could cancel my contract with orange using my policy, free of charge, no questions asked... brilliant I thought lol!
So after 5 months the phone started acting up. Never mind.. only 1 month then I can cancel the contract... ha-ha, how stupid I was. On the 12th Jan I took my phone, with all the paperwork, box and stuff that came with it back to the store and was then told that I would have to pay an extra premium of £30 to use and then cancel my policy. Not impressed... but I bit my lip and paid it. 2 weeks later I received a bill. I thought it was just my final bill so I planned to pay it once I received my wages at the end of the month. Then at the end of the month I received ANOTHER bill for nearly £100.00.
So I called Orange and they said that my contact was still running and to call Lifeline which I did. "oh sorry madam, we must have missed that one. I will do it for you now and you will receive a final bill. Once you receive this, give us a call and we will pay the full amount."
A week later and no final bill. I call Orange who say that no request has been put through and that I was still liable for the bill. So I call back Lifeline and ask then what is going on. They explained to me that until the final call charges had been paid, they would not process my request. They said that they would pay for all line rental after the 12th of Jan... fair enough... but that is not what I was told previously.
This is still on going. Please take this as a warning and DO NOT TAKE OUT INSURANCE THROUGH CARPHONE WAREHOUSE
