life & critical illness cover with arthritis

Hi I wonder if anyone could give me some information. I currently have a life & critical illness policy with standard life on a decreasing term for my mortgage. However as I am about to remortgage and the new mortgage is more money can I increse the sum insured or would I hve to take out a new policy.

Also when I last took out the life & ca policy previously they would not cover me for total and permanent disability as i have arthritis - this diagnosis is currently being reveiwed but I am aware that I need to declare it as the insurance companies will wriggle out of paying if they can!

Should I try and get a new policy covering me for the above and if so where. I don't really understand what total and permanent disability is so any advice would be ppreciated. I am 26.

    Thanks

If your current policy is a guaranteed premium you won't be able to add to it. If it is reviewable then you will be able to increase the premium to the required level. You could also just take out a further policy for the extra amount under the same terms or a completely new policy for the total amount. When you have terms of disability they will be based on either work tasks or total and permanent disability, these are based on type of employments or existing medical conditions. If the review states that you are clear of any medical problems you may be able to review your cover. As in all insurance contracts you must declare all instances that are relevant to the cover applied for, otherwise the policy mat be useless in the event of a claim.
