    Re: insurance claim

No problems, best of luck with the claim - Your impression about disbelief of owenrship is not surprising. Unfortunately fraud is a common occurrance with Travel baggage/valuables claims and insurers have become very wary over the years; although I don't think any are using voice stress testing equipment as they do in some motor insurance.......yet!

thank you for your reply.....i have sent them a picture of me wearing the earrings whilst on holiday as proof of ownership so i am waiting to see if they will relent and send me the full monetary value of the earring....i get the impression they dont believe that i could own such a valuable pair of earrings....but they were bought in europe for me when i was in my 20's and they are 18 karat gold

    Re: insurance claim

Most travel insurance companies valuables/baggage clause are on an "Indemnity" basis; this means that the insurer will place a value against the item you are claiming for and make a deduction for wear and tear.

You can query how they got to there original valuation and maybe get a alternative valuation from another jeweller; aletrnativly if you have a Home Contents policy you may find that it has a more favourable clause or claims limit for items away from the home

Re your point about sending the other earring, you can offer to send a photograph of the item, I would question though exactly what the insurers are going to do with one earring??

If you can't reach a solution with the insurer, or you think they are being too demanding about the remaining earring, you final course of action for complaint would be the FInancial Ombudsmans Service (FOS)

    insurance claim

i have put in an insurance claim for an earring i lost while on holiday...it was a very old earring but of high quality gold....the insurance company have only offered half of the money of the value for this set of earrings...and will only give the full amount if i send the second earring to them...the earring also has great sentimental value as well as being irreplacable.. i am reluctant to send the one remaining earring that a decease parent gave me the money to buy these earrings when i was a teenager.....what the company are offering will not buy me another set of earrings of the same monetary value....so if i accept their offer then i cannot replace the earrings with earrings of the same quality or value ...where do i stand...surely i can insist they settle the claim in full with out parting with a cherished memory
