Conman is right you do need to check the policy. Many Australia/NZ policies will allow for short stopovers in other Worldwide or USA destinations. Could be 24 hours, 3 days or even 10% of the trip duration but not all do give this flexiability so do double check what the rules are.

Hi -- Realistically you need to read and understand what your policy covers you for, every policy is different so only you yourself, has access to the wording in your particular policy.

    Travel Insurance

I'm going to NZ on a single trip of 90 days. The trip insurance is for New Zealand. The flight lands in Los Angeles, where I assume I will be in a transit lounge. Does my insurance cover me for illness in transit, should I need medical assistance in LA?
