    Hi,

    Many thanks.

The cover is through Elephant.co.uk, so try it with just your name, then joint names.

I did go for the single-name company's quote, and just added my girlfriend's name afterwards. It made no difference to the cost.

    Cheers,

    Nick.

    Hi,

After seeking advice from a friend who is an underwriter for home insurance I can tell you that there are no implications of putting the policy in joint names or not, only that the company will not be able to discuss the policy with your partner due to data protection.

It is interesting that the policy is so much cheaper in your name rather than joint names, can you tell me which company you have gone through?

    Thanks,

    Fran.

Cover in joint names or not?

    Hi,

Myself and my partner are about to get buildings and contents insurance on our first mortgaged house.

I have found a quote that is substantially cheaper if I do not put my partner's name on the policy - what are the implications of this

Is it simply a case that only I would be able to claim if she wasn't on the policy, or is there something else I should be aware of? I have obviously stated that there will be 2 adults at the property in the quotes.

The quote I have found is with a company that do not do joint name policies, and so is around £50 cheaper than everyone else.

    Cheers,

    Nick.
