I said I'd get back and tell you how I find Virgin.

One word...

RUBBISH!

 I've been with them 3 weeks now and I've already asked for my MAC code - I'm off.

At 4AM you can get speeds upto 6300.

However, the rest of the day I've been getting download speeds of around 230kbps.

No way Im paying for this service.

Have registered with BE Broadband, who by all accounts seem to be a lot better.

Anyway people - STEER WELL CLEAR OF VIRGIN ADSL....!!!

(And they want me to pay £50 to leave them - they have no chance!)

Virgin broadband doesn't actually go through a BT phone line. It's NTL/Telewest's Cable broadband so in fact you won't need a phone line at all for the broadband.

VirginMedia  has had ADSL broadband for ages now!!!  And they have various packages available.

I'm currently using Virginmedia BB and its rubbish.  Your lucky to get dial up speeds during the daytime so basically u can't surf the internet properly.  Only good thing is that they have unlimited allowance but going by the limited bandwidth u get, ur never gonna be able to download much anyway!  My line syncs at 5.5Mbps.  I occasionally get the full bandwidth but most of the time i'm getting 0.4Mbps.

Just depends on the area and how many people are using Virginmedia on the same exhange.

I was with virgin for a couple of years before trying sky for its tv phone and bb package ,bad mistake im off back to virgin which is through bt line i dont have cable in my area ,i think in all the time i was with virgin i may have called then about 3 times ,so for me the service was good ,just a pity i moved but we all make mistakes.

Please, please, please remember that LLU services mean that although you are paying for an ISP service to someone like Virgin Media, you will NOT get support of any kind from BT. If your line starts to get noisy or it drops out for no reason, you will have to deal with Virgin and since they do not OWN the line, they, in turn will have to go to BT to get anything fixed.

If this is not an LLU service, then you pay Virgin for the broadband, and BT for the line rental ... where's the sense in that?

If you want a general appraisal of Virgin's service, look carefully at this forum, it says more than I can ever say!

I know what you mean, although they do now provide broadband down a Bt line aswell.

They are abviously buying lines from Bt and using it as 'their own'

For the standard unlimited broadband at upto 8mg it works out at £17.99 a month, i swapped last night. Will be up and running in 5 days so will let everyone know how i find it...

I've used NTL/Virgin broadband for a few years and know of several people who do. I actually run an IT company and come across broadband everyday. Generally Virgin broadband will be more reliable than any ADSL connection such as BT, AOL, Tiscali etc. However since Mr Branson has taken over the affairs at NTL they have introduced a higher rate broadband support telephone number. However I've never had to call them.

I do speak to BT regarding broadband problems on a regular basis on behalf of clients.

Hi All.

I'm thinking of swapping from madasafish to Virgin over my BT line.

All seems good - well, the price does....just a £10 a month,

Anyone else got Virgin over their BT line....if so, is it worthwhile do you think?

Cant really complain about Madasafish, apart from the fact its £27 a month and with d/l limits....gotta be worth saving £17 a month surely?
