RAC Car Insurance
The RAC has a long-established reputation as a motoring specialist. Also known as the “the driving people”, the RAC has been around since 1987 and now has more than seven million members.
It offers a range of driving products and services - one of which is car insurance.
If you own a car, it is now a legal requirement to have motor insurance policy in place, but there are different levels to choose from.
With household budgets stretched to their limits, you may be tempted to scrimp on the level of cover, but you must ensure you have the right level of cover in place.
Third party only cover is the lowest level of cover and the next level up is third party fire and theft (TPFT). Third party fire and theft cover from the RAC covers damage to other people's cars and property, and repairs if your car is damaged by fire or theft. It also covers emergency medical treatment after an accident and a three-year guarantee on repairs carried out by a tradesman from its approved network. If you drive your car in the EU, you get third party only cover.
For extra peace of mind, the RAC also offers comprehensive car insurance. As well as the features offered in TPFT policies, this includes new car replacement for written off cars under one year old, and a courtesy car as standard when you use one of the RAC's approved repairers.
If you add Personal Accident Cover to your policy, you get the first six months free.
Additional benefits with RAC car insurance
You could also opt for the RAC car insurance plus policy, which is comprehensive cover with an added range of extra benefits. This can be added for a small percentage of your premium.
Possible additional benefits include transport home after an accident anywhere in the UK, personal accident cover for you and your partner of up to £5,000 per claim, and up to £100 per seat towards replacement child car seats - even if there's no apparent damage.
With this policy, you also get a refund of your excess and get to keep your no-claims discount if you're hit by an uninsured driver.
Why the RAC?
The RAC prides itself on giving customers a good deal on their car insurance - backed up by quality and service - and you can call the company at any time if you need to make a claim.
It assists both private and business motorists and boasts the world's most advanced computer systems to deal with roadside assistance calls.

When it comes to car insurance, you should never automatically renew your policy at renewal time, as your current insurer is unlikely to offer the most competitive premium.
Use a comparison site to hunt down a better quote, as this will help you drive down the cost of your cover.
