It's horrible when you get yourself in financial trouble. You probably feel a bit like this guy. Trapped, isolated, all on your own, nobody understands.

Don't be disheartened my friend, I'm here to help. There are a few things you can do that'll help enormously.

Start by doing some sums. A basic budget. Work out what's coming in, and what's coming out. Now, is there anything you can cut back on? Do you really need that subscription to Habidashers world magazine? And that frappucino on the way to work?

Could you slash the amount of interest you're being charged on your debts by switching to a better loan or credit card?? Why not have a look on a price comparison website?

Prioritise your payments. There's no point keeping your phone line connected if you get evicted from your house. Pay off the most important bills first.

If you're having trouble paying back loans or credit card bills, call them up, and explain your situation. You never know, they might give you a holiday period or reduce your monthly repayments to something you can manage.

And if you really don't feel like you can handle it on your own, there are charities out there that specialise in helping out. Have a look online for StepChange, Citizens Advice or the National Debtline.
