Our Expert Says...

SSE's Fair Pricing Policy means they will hold off putting up energy prices for as long as possible and will try to bring them down as quickly as possible.

SWALEC (as part of SSE) supplies 9 million energy customers comprising of 5.53 million electricity customers and 3.47 million gas customers. They generated the most renewable electricity in the UK compared with the other 5 major suppliers, from 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008. They are one of the leading energy companies in the UK and the country's second largest energy supplier, ranking 23rd in the FTSE 100 on 31 March 2009.

Cold caller salesman hides price reality

Added 04/11/2010, reviewed by anonymous (Colwyn Bay)

Supplier Ratings

We were one of the many, who have been dazzled by cold caller sales pitch and are now finding to our expense, the reality of switching to SWALEC. Whilst there customer service is helpful, they have also made administrative errors with our accounts, for dual fuel. In fact this was the fault of the original cold caller wise guy salesman. Prior to being lured to SWALEC,we had seperate suppliers for Gas and electricity and to be honest, when we did our sums,we were better off with our old suppliers. To put it mildly,if you get a cold calling utility salesman knocking on your door, send him or her packing,or better still, put up a no cold callers sign,on your door or nearest window,to your door.

Leaving to save money

Added 30/08/2010, reviewed by anonymous (Redditch)

Supplier Ratings

Have been with SWALEC for several years. No serious problems, but decided to switch to save £20.00 per month. I never understood the Argos points scheme - I'd rather have a discount on the bill than a gimmick.

Good but mainly bad!

Added 06/01/2010, reviewed by Dave (Deeside)

Supplier Ratings

Having just bought a repossessed house, I found I had dreaded pre-payment meters (previous occupants must have been in debt). SWALEC changed the meters with reasonable efficiency and no charges. That is the good part... However, they did not offer any choice of tarriff when arranging how to pay. I always prefer No-Standing-Charge types. I was lumbared with the standard rates, then they state that it will take months for them to change, even though I am not leaving them! Why? No explanation given, so I will be leaving them as soon as possible, but I know they will hang on as long as they can, like all these companies do. Why are ALL energy companies in UK so awful? Privatisation.

Consumption

Added 12/11/2009, reviewed by anonymous (NEWPORT)

Supplier Ratings

Moved into new property which had token meter asked to have it changed to domestic meter. When engineer changed meter he asked if i had tampered with it . Since that day my consumption doubled. it took 4 years of using 19 units a day with no one in property during day. After phoning every month for 4 years they finally put a check meter in and from that date my consumption dropped to 10 units a day. Their reason for this is change of life style. Have now changed to E.ON
