Our Expert Says...

Scottish and Southern's Fair Pricing Policy means they will hold off putting up energy prices for as long as possible and will try to bring them down as quickly as possible.

SWALEC (SSE) supplies 9 million energy customers comprising of 5.53 million electricity customers and 3.47 million gas customers. They generated the most renewable electricity in the UK compared with the other 5 major suppliers, from 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008. They are one of the leading energy companies in the UK and the country's second largest energy supplier, ranking 23rd in the FTSE 100 on 31 March 2009.

Consumption

Supplier Ratings

Moved into new property which had token meter asked to have it changed to domestic meter. When engineer changed meter he asked if i had tampered with it . Since that day my consumption doubled. it took 4 years of using 19 units a day with no one in property during day. After phoning every month for 4 years they finally put a check meter in and from that date my consumption dropped to 10 units a day. Their reason for this is change of life style. Have now changed to E.ON

preposterous accuracy of Charges

Supplier Ratings

I have been a customer with SWALEC from 2007. the customer services are not bad actually and they help in emergencies such as, repair or fixing for gas and electric. However they tend to send a bill that is overcharged. I live on my own and in February and March 2009 I was away in the hospital for treatment. yet I had a bill for £ 186. Its without a doubt, preposterous and insane calculation that a single person who didn't use the gas for two months have to pay a rather staggering price baring in mind that I receive income support which is £50 weekly. I find that very difficult to understand.

Huge Prices!!

Supplier Ratings

Our combined electricity and gas bills have nearly doubled in 6 months. Started out as a great supplier, now costing the earth - time to switch. Just have to get ready for SWALEC knocking on the door every month now and telling us how mad we were to switch, just like they did last time we switched. Sigh.

Illogical jump in tariff

Supplier Ratings

Used to pay £59 pcm and generally money was owed to me at the end of each year. suddenly get a new DD mandate to increase payments to £138pcm when year's bill underpaid by £88.00. On calling, asked if dropping it to £80pcm was ok. What logic behind £138 and then round it off to £80 ??? Decided to do dual switch as Swalec don't provide combined / dual fuel. Saving predicted £240 ? for how long. Good service. Shame about the prices
