Scottish Hydro (SSE) supplies 9 million energy customers comprising of 5.53 million electricity customers and 3.47 million gas customers. They generated the most renewable electricity in the UK compared with the other 5 major suppliers, from 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008. They are one of the leading energy companies in the UK and the country's second largest energy supplier, ranking 23rd in the FTSE 100 on 31 March 2009.

Trouble free , accurate , everything you would want from a power company. Just a shame they didn't do capped prices in the current inflationary times. Will go back to them when the power markets balance themselves out again.

Reluctant leaver

Have been with them for five years, and have no complaints. Have just telephoned to find out about capping, but was informed they have none. Thus, reluctantly I have gone to British Gas, which is capped until 31/12/09. Hope I am not proved wrong, but with the imminent increases, I see it as the only way.

I have never had any problems with this company, have always found telephone staff very helpful and pleasant. I am simply switching to a fixed tarriff as a precautionary measure.

Great service provided by Hydro, easy to use website so no paper billing. Only reason I am changing from them is that they are not offering a capped tariff. If they were to do so I would switch back in a minute!

Good to deal with

Recently got 6 monthly bill and was told my direct debit charges would be increasing. Did a price comparision and found I could cut my bills by switching suppliers. However British gas and N-power had such terrible reviews that I decided to talk to Scottish Hydro Electric first. Glad I did as they agreed to leave my gas DD as it was as new price was based on estimated yearly usage and I was still in credit with them. I could still shave off a few pounds a month by changing but there customer service is excellent and in 5 years with them we've had no problems.
