Scottish Hydro (SSE) supplies 9 million energy customers comprising of 5.53 million electricity customers and 3.47 million gas customers. They generated the most renewable electricity in the UK compared with the other 5 major suppliers, from 1 April 2007 to 31 March 2008. They are one of the leading energy companies in the UK and the country's second largest energy supplier, ranking 23rd in the FTSE 100 on 31 March 2009.

Poor service

I began receiving letters saying I owed money of amounts up to £1,300 which I knew wasn't right as we live in a small two bed flat. I called and a hydro engineer was sent out. I was told that my meter was wired up completely wrong (everything was going on the expensive meter) so my landlord hired an electrician to correct the problem. I was told by Hydro that it was ok to have a private electrician to do the work and that when the problem was corrected my bills would be recalculated and I wouldn't have to pay the large bills back. HOWEVER, after receiving yet another large bill last week, I spent an hour on the phone to a manager, who told me we still have to pay back almost £1000 for electricity we didn't use! The case is going to citizens advice.

I have been with Scottish Hydro for over a year now and have a prepayment meter. I received a bill from them in September advising that the bill sent had not been paid, when telephoning to explain I have a prepayment meter they said it was an error and to ignore. 2 weeks later I received a notice of electric disconnection due to the bill not being paid, furious I telephoned again to be told that they did not know where the money i have been puting to my meter had been going. They came and changed my meter and the guy changing it said I had been paying over the odds, the money I've been paying has been going to my previous supplier and they are trying to get it back, meanwhile they are due me money and I cant change suppliers until this is fixed - stay clear of them

I tired of trying to deal with them on line or by post. When I tried to register on line, their site would not accept my email address and rather bizarrely suggested I try another email address. Subsequent post communications got nowhere and I checked with your site for another supplier. Lo and behold, I was paying over the odds for their poor service.

I have been with this company for around 2 years, good service and good product especially in these times of ever increasing prices. A worrying trend has started to creap into this company which may soon have them lolling around in the muck with BG, I know they are not the cheapest and that we could do better but I have stuck by them because of good customer service,recently they have started to come away with over inflated prices when updating my direct debit. They start with a gross over estimation of usage, increasing my bill by 100%/month and then when you report an accurate reading they realise there is no change but still leave you with the increased payment. If you do not phone to inform them they will rip you off...naughty naughty.

I have been with the company for a year and have had no problmes. staff are extremely helpfull on the phone and the prices i have been paying are very very low despite the increase in oil prices. I am a little dissapointed in their recent price rises, but they should hopefully come down in the coming months. The company is fantastic and they are giving away free energy saving light bulbs all the time. They also offer many other incentives and are comitted to been a highly green energy company
