Originally launching in 2001, Sainsburys Energy teamed up Scottish Power to provide gas and electricity to UK customers. In 2006, Sainsburys Energy changed away from Scottish Power and set-up a deal up with UK energy provider EDF. Customers of Sainsburys Energy, since their deal with EDF came into affect in September 2006, receive the same rates applied to direct EDF customers but with the added incentive of receiving 'nectar' points against their energy consumption.

I left my previous supplier because they were holding on to my money, I was hundreds in credit. Switched to this supplier nearly a year ago for gas and electric at the same monthly payments. July they dropped a bombshell, my monthly direct debit was going to be doubled until my annual review which is October which made it more than my mortgage payments. I have just signed back with my previous supplier. Stay well away from Sainsburys energy.

I was pleased with Sainsburys Energy when I first signed up and felt that they contracted all they said they would. However several meter readers called during the last year who supposedly were reading the meter - when my last bill arrived it had an estimated amount on it with a note saying my bill would be another £20 per month. I gave my meter reading to them and discovered that it was 3oo units less than the estimate. The CS said I would get a revised bill and possibly the DD would not be increased. When I did get this they have put it up another £10 a month although my electric consumption is virtually the same throughout the year, I have gas heating and hot water and gas cooking, so wonder why they are doing this. I have thought about another supplier but find this too much hassle

I switched to sainbury's energy because I shop in sainsbury's,they promised me they'd be cheaper when in fact my bills have shot up by 50%,they told me I only use 3 units a day,but still charge me £60 per month and I live alone, don't use any heating or hot water, which is scandaless, they won't budge, they just say my next bill will be cheaper which isn't good enough, they're basically using me like a bank,I'm not having it,I'll rather go to prison than pay the bill.,STAY AWAY FROM THESE ROBBING BASTARDS.

After switching from British Gas, I have nothing but praise for Sainsburys Energy (EDF). Never on hold for more than 2-3 mins, customer service staff always helpful. Just had a bill through and am £110 in credit. Phoned hoping to reduce DD but am also getting half the bill (which is what I wanted) refunded and a reduction in my DD.

Twice recently I have been informed of vast increases in the monthly Direct Debit for electricity which seemd out of proportion. I rang and argued and they reduced it to a more reasonable level. The motto should be ARGUE WITH THEM.
See when Sainsbury's Energy changed their Gas & Electricity prices and by how much. Down arrows represent price drops and up arrows represent price increases.
