If there is a 12 month contract when you switch utility companies, the new rates you switched to should be valid for the entire year of the contract, otherwise the contract is meaningless and the saving you expect calculated on these comparison sites is meaningless. I changed to nPower based on the rates and the savings I would expect over a year. However after a month on nPower rates, they increased the electricity and gas rates significantly. This on its own invalidated the agreement so I informed them that I would be changing companies (which I have done). This is really poor service and what it does is make me never want to go back to nPower. Also I suspect it does cost a company to bring on someone and then lose them over such a short period of time.

Had NPower rush the install of a Boiler, leaving a leaking system with other potential flaws. No help from anyone one on any phone line. Avoid them, no matter how cheap they are

npower emailed me that prices were going up on average 5.1% and I could enter my tariff to check how it would affect me. When I entered my dual fuel tariff (Sign Online 18), the statement was that my rates would be going up but would still be 2% below the Standard Tariff. I telephoned npower to check on the rates and was told that my gas standing charge would go up from £30 to £41.49 per quarter (38.3% increase) and that my cost per KwH would go up from 2.225p to 2.602p (16.9% increase). (All prices excl. VAT.) This is deliberate obfuscation because the standard tariff operates on a different system. It is a two part tariff where the first 4572 KwH are charged at a high rate (7.308p) and subsequent KwH at 2.578p. Obviously, the % increase for any consumer depends on total usage.

Althoughh NPower can raise my sign online tariff which doesn't expire till next March 2011 If I decide to leave I still have to pay £40 exit fee. !! JAll one sided.

i have found the service to be good , but what irritates me is the bills are too complicated to understand they say they have made them easier to understand but this just is not correct , do they want us customers to understand exactly ? i doubt it .
