Our Expert Says...

They don't come much greener than 'Good Energy' - the only provider to supply 100% of their energy from renewable sources. Although their prices are not as competitive as the 'BIG 6', these guys are really in it for the environment and pledge to replace every unit of energy used by their customers with a unit of energy from renewable sources – wind, small-scale hydro and solar.

Good Energy now has over 26,000 electricity, 2,500 gas and 1,079 micro-generating customers across the UK and is the only provider to supply ALL of their electricity from renewable sources wind, small-scale hydro and solar power. Good Energy has received many awards for its contribution to ''green'' energy with the latest in March 2010 being Good Energy CEO and founder Juliet Davenport being named as 'At Home' magazine top 20 eco hero 2010 and also winning the 2009 Sustainable Housing Awards' Sustainable Innovation award for it's HotROCs scheme; the UK's first Renewable Heat Incentive.

Very satisfied with being green

Supplier Ratings

I have been a Good Energy customer for many years now and have no complaints. They are unobtrusive and polite and get the job done. It's easy to pay by quarterly bills or monthly payments and I've always been very satisfied with the service I've received. Even if my payment was a bit late, I only received a polite reminder in the post, not a nasty red letter full of threats that other companies send. Wanting to be eco-friendly is the reason I switched to Good Energy but I'm very happy that I can also enjoy good service. In fact, I'm going to switch my gas to them too.

Good service, clear conscience.

I've been with them for several years now with no problems, and a warm glow inside from doing my tiny bit to help safeguard the future of our planet. I don't find them expensive and hey, even if they were, what's the price of coal and nuclear. I don't recall them coming very often to read the meter, but whenever I receive a bill, I check my meter against their estimate and, if necessary, let them know online. It's always amended promptly and taken into account on my next bill. I don't need them to read my meter. That costs money and we all end up paying in the end. All in all, a great company.

Poor Service but good intentions

Added 12/01/2013, reviewed by Robin (Hockley, Essex UK)

Supplier Ratings

Always found staff polite. Due to no meter readings we accrued a large bill. Once the true readings were given we found out we owed a couple of thousand. A letter to their managing director went unanswered and numerous phone calls failed to resolve the issue. Staff became unfriendly and unhelpful. I gather the problems I have described are far from unique. In a nutshell, if you want good customer service avoid Good Energy and find another supplier.

Could do better

The other review of Good Energy mirrors our experience of the company. We too were charged incorrectly for many many months. When it transpired we owed money we did not expect to owe their collection policy became aggressive. It's not a word I like to use but in this instance it's entirely appropriate. Ethical intentions must extend to how a company deals with a customer. In the case of Good Energy they most definitely do not. Go elsewhere.

Hopeless service

Added 03/12/2012, reviewed by anonymous (Liverpool)

Supplier Ratings

Aggressive collection. After being on an estimated usage, we had a lot to catch up on when they took a reading as their estimates were out. They had not come round and read the meter for a long time and we had not checked. When they did revise the bill it was for over a thousand pounds, they were inflexible and rude and one point and charming the next, followed by rude the next. Often when speaking to the same person. You really did not know where you were with them. We were polite and apologetic to them at all times so as not to annoy them for what good that did. They said we were going to be de-energised, would not listed to the fact my partner had just lost their job. They would not listen to our reasonable repayment payment plan.
