Terrible - do not use

I made the big mistake of changing two houses to EDF when BG put their prices up last year. It was just very slow changing my house, changing my partners house was a nightmare. They took months to change from BG and I had to make loads of calls. Apologised in the end for having a dispute with BG and forgetting to finish the transfer. Then they said I had to have Economy 7 despite signing up for a standard supply as the meter was E7. The meter is a modern one which can show day, night or total consumption. BG had always billed the total. EDF are too incompetent to do this. They were supposed to contact my partner to change the meter but failed to do so for months. This was finally arranged for 5 months after the contract started, but they insist I have to pay E7 rate.

Dont bother, too much hassle with DD Pay

Supplier Ratings

Been with EDF almost 2 years; last 8 months has become a hassle. There automated billing system that calculates DD payments simply doesnt work or is accurate. DD payment was changing every month as there system seems to calculates DD amount based on usage between last 2 readings. Was submitting regular readings via iphone until I was advised not to by call centre staff. The system altered my payments down £39 to £2 per month for gas one month and then increased from £2 to £89 the next! Despite numerouse phone calls, I have decided to call it a day with EDF. A call centre person then tried to manually calculate and came up something totally different to the system. They might retain more customers if the sent a letter stating proposing amount change before actually changing it. RIP EDF

Improved now that I control payments!

Supplier Ratings

I've been with them since they took over Virgin energy. EDF overestimates bills, ignores meter readings, sets DD too high. So, after years of disputes, I cancelled DD and put their estimated DD amount into a "regular saver" account to pay quarterly bills with. After 6 summer months I was £700 up - more than enough for the extra winter payments! Funny enough, now that they can't just take money from me up front, they use the meter readings! The loss of £74 pa discount is more than made up for by lack of hassle and taking back control of my finances. Anyone can do this. I now manage the account online, submitting meter readings when asked, paying paperless quarterly bills by internet banking and it works.

Great Company

Supplier Ratings

Having worked for EDF and another supplier thats got callcentres in northeast, EDF always had a wait time, but the customer focus is exceptional. I was allowed to take time off to sort customer queries which could take some time. Another provider in northeast has amazin call que times, however, your rarely dealt with right away, your query gets passed on to another department and your told to wait approx a month for an outcome. Please also bear in mind edf has a freephone number (or did when i worked there), so your wait may be long but its free. EDF treats their customers and staff very well indeed, unlike other energy providers

Utterly abysmal....

Added 05/12/2011, reviewed by anonymous (Worthing)

Supplier Ratings

Was overbilled by £700, EDF failed to identify the problem and the bills kept coming. Verbal apologies were forthcoming, but so were the threats of disconnection. Finally, a tech appeared on my doorstep to disconnect me. Despite seeing I was disorientated & confused having suffered an epileptic seizure, he still took my debit card and made a payment over the telephone. I called to complain yet again, and they finally admitted it was a technical error and would reissue a correct bill - which didn't arrive. I gave a reading. They lost it. They now admit they have overbilled or underbilled, they're not sure, and are still trying to work it out. (I've made four 40 minute+ calls in the last 7 days) Not had a correct bill for 12 months+. Even current EDF staff I know admit they're utterly inept.
