British Gas Reviews

I was with British Gas for gas and electricity for about 7 years (up until July 2011), and seemed to have no end of problems. They repeatedly made various account errors, ranging from getting my address wrong, to charging me on the wrong tariff. At its worst, they actually managed to bill me for my neighbour's electricity for a while. They also neglected to adjust my monthly Direct Debit payments according to usage, meaning my account would sometimes be hundreds of pounds in credit (even in winter). At one stage, they actually broke the terms of the fixed price contract I was on, and increased my unit cost of gas and electricity. I had to argue with customer support to get it rectified. Overall, I had a very bad experience, and am not likely to trust British Gas again.

I am REALLY not happy with this comapany at all! I have just recently moved into my house and was constantly getting "over due" payment letters through my door for electricity I was using! They only ever sent over due letters and not any before that. The man on the phone gave me a date my bills will go out... They didn't go out on that date so I took it upon myself to pay it on the website.. I then get charged double and the customer service was terrible! They didn't even know what I was talking about. I then got some sence out of someone, "credit" was then put on my account..My next bills have gone out to then find I have once again over paid!!! I am very angry with this and havnt got time to ring up every week! I am cancelling as soon as possible!

I have been with British Gas for a number of years and can't recognise the company from all the unfavourable reviews. I have paperless billing which arrives on the computer in easy to understand format which I can print off to keep should I wish. I read the meter every month and this is reflected on the bills accurately. Enquiries are answered promptly and politely. I think we need to wait until there is a level playing field with all the companies reaching their ultimate price point before an accurate assessment of which company is going to be the cheapest for gas/electricity can be made.

I've been with British Gas for several years now and have no complaints. I check comparison sites when my tariff ends, I have swapped to different tariffs but so far remained with B.G even when they aren't the cheapest. Swapping B.G tariffs can be done online through their website. I submit regular meter readings online and more recently using their app on my Ipod. I know how much fuel I use and that the bill is accurate. The B.G website keeps usage records and has pretty usage diagrams. Their online account is really good and means I don't have to deal with call centers. I have rang them before, not terrible or great but acceptable and spoke OK English which was good.

I 're-joined' British Gas on 19.05.11, but after receiving 20 subsequent emails, I still don't know if I am with really them! (as at 29.07.11!) I hav done all they asked, e,g, given email address, bank details, meter readings ec, but they seem very confused about meter readings! They kept 'confirming' wrong data! Even when I phoned them and they said they had sorted it all and wouldn't be troubled any further I still was receiving 'wrong' confimations. One of their emails even encouraged me to 'save money' by switching to Energy Smart, which, it transpires, was a DEARER tariff than the one I had signed up for! I am still unable to give meter readings online, and am still unable to see what meter readings they are using to start my account, even though they have taken one months charges!
