Commenting on today's broadband speed test results from Ofcom, James Parker, broadband manager at moneysupermarket.com said,

"Speed is one of the most important issues facing not only the industry but consumers too. For the past 18 months there have been a number of concerns that consumers are being misled when buying broadband packages. Often they're lured into buying high-speed connections when the reality for millions is the infrastructure simply cannot achieve the speeds being promised.

"Downloading and streaming through sites like iplayer and Spotify mean that people are hungry for more bandwidth. As the Ofcom speed tests show, Virgin are the best bet for a package that delivers on speed and this is a result of significant investment in their network. People need to check how their providers fare when picking a broadband package, as the Ofcom test shows, the faster products can often be poor value for money."
