Peter Harrison, travel money expert at moneysupermarket.com, said "Congratulations to Thomas Cook for embracing price comparison.

"Whilst this move will be a great help to customers, people should look beyond the high street for their holiday cash.  For example the most competitive exchange rates for travel money are currently offered by online prepaid currency cards.

"For those travelling abroad this summer Nationwide's debit cards still offer the best bet for most holiday makers, but if they don't want to have to open a new current account the CaxtonFX or the FairFX prepaid currency cards are a competitive alternative."
