Commenting on the latest price hikes from E.ON, Scott Byrom, energy channel manager at moneysupermarket.com, said:

"E.ON is the fourth of the Big Six to turn up the heat on cash strapped consumers this summer; effective from 13th September, the price of standard gas will rise by 18 per cent and electricity by 11 per cent, impacting four million customers respectively. This price increase will see £132 added to the average cost of a yearly bill - a blow to anyone languishing on a standard tariff.

"Bill payers need to strike back, or they'll continue to pay the price. I advise people to take action now and move on to the best fixed priced energy deal for their usage level and area they live in. Households can combat rising prices by opting for the market leading fixed tariff from EDF Energy, Fix Saver v2, with average bills of £1,009*.
 
"E.ON customers changing to the best priced fixed tariff today could see average annual savings of around £246. Shopping around using a price comparison site for the best value energy product is vital, and I urge everyone worried about the cost of their bills to act quickly as the best priced products won't be available for long."
