Bob Atkinson, travel expert from travelsupermarket.com, commenting on easyJet's results today: "Despite snow and ash disruption, easyJet have released a strong set of figures for the six months to 31 March 2010.

"We must commend easyJet for the way it handled passengers during the ash and snow crisis, laying on additional flights, abiding by EU regulations and setting up new ways for customers to seek assistance in times of trouble.

"With sustained growth, easyJet is now claiming to be the UK's largest carrier but there are a couple of areas for concern - the low cost carrier continues to see huge growth in revenues from baggage and in-flight sales, all items that customers can easily avoid having to pay over the odds for by careful planning.  These revenues now account for 22 per cent of the total achieved by the airline and have grown by 20 per cent in the last period versus last year, clearly showing that the airline is taking advantage of this area to profiteer from customers.  Customers can avoid checking in bags by using easyJet's unlimited weight hand baggage allowance and can take their own food onboard to avoid the average a mark up of easyJet items of over 390 per cent on high street prices.

"Revenues from extra products such as hotels and car hire fell, showing that customers are realising that by using price comparison they can actually find a better overall deal as opposed to the limited and pricey selection offered by the airline's website."
