Brits get their handsets dirty

Hundreds of thousands of people are using their mobile phones to access adult content on the internet, a new survey by moneysupermarket.com reveals.

 

• Over 45,000 women admit to watching adult content on their mobile

The study on mobile internet usage shows one in four (24 per cent) people access the internet via their mobile handset, with one in 30 (3 per cent) accessing X-rated material. 

It's not just men who get their kicks from their phones with over 45,000** (1 per cent) women admitting to getting their handsets dirty. The results also show on average men spend 15 minutes a week on the internet on their phone, whilst women only spend 11 minutes.
 
Those in the north are the most prolific - of those northerners accessing the internet on their phone, one in 12 (8 per cent) in the north-west and one in 16 (6 per cent) in Scotland, admit to surfing for X-rated material.

James Parker, manager of mobiles and broadband at price comparison website moneysupermarket.com, said: "Our research reveals people's appetite for viewing adult content is at such a level they even search for it whilst on the move. Although three per cent admit to viewing this content, in reality this figure is probably a lot higher. Mobile technology has come a long way in the past few years, with the advent of 3G networks the mobile is no longer just for making calls - and clearly some people are making the most of this new freedom! The internet knows no limits and now people have access to all kinds of things in the palm of their hands."
