Most of us are reducing the amount we plan to spend this Christmas, so it's more important than ever to

According to research from moneysupermarket.com vouchers, consumers are planning to spend just £195 on presents for loved ones this year, down from £232 last year. One in six parents says they are planning on spending £50 or less on their children this year, with only one in ten saying they'll be spending more than £250.

Sian Harrison, voucher expert at moneysupermarket.com said; "Christmas can be a very expensive time and it will be a blow to many people that their finances are in a worse state this year than last.
"However, it does appear that people are getting savvier about ways to reduce their outgoings by spreading their spending and using vouchers. Retailers are savvier too and this Christmas we expect a bumper crop of deals and discounts to be offered to attract budget-conscious consumers."
