A new report has revealed that people in the UK are spending more time using televisions, computers and mobile phones than ever before - but paying less for them.

The report by industry regulator Ofcom into the UK's £51 billion communications industry showed that in 2007 consumers spent an average of 7 hours and 9 minutes a day using an array of communications services - up by six minutes from 2002.

The figure includes watching television, surfing the net, using mobile phones, talking on a landline phone and listening to the radio.

The greatest increase was seen in mobile phone and internet use, with time spent talking and texting on mobiles doubling from five to 10 minutes a day. Meanwhile, time spent on PCs and laptops has grown fourfold - from six minutes to 24 minutes per person every day.

The report also revealed that the price consumers paid for their communication services has fallen in recent years, due to lower broadband costs, better discounts for bundled packages, and good old-fashioned shopping around for a bargain.
