It may be summer and the heating may be off, but now's the time to switch your energy deal.

Millions of people are on cheap energy deals that are about to end and they could see their gas and electricity bills could soar by hundreds of pounds a year if they do nothing. This coupled with the fact energy prices are expected to rise by around 15% before the end of the year means now is the time to act.

Experts are recommending that people switch to a fixed rate tariff to protect against the anticipated price hikes.

Scott Byrom, energy expert at moneysupermarket.com, said: "For those wanting to relax and enjoy the summer knowing they have secured the cheapest rates ahead of winter now is the time to act. Price increases are looming and when they come we could see energy bills jump by 15%. There are a number of fantastic "fixed" deals on the market at with prices locked in until at least July 2012. These deals have limited availability and so I urge people to act now and switch before they're pulled from the market."
