Brits change holiday plans to avoid further flight chaos

2010 hasn't been a great year for UK air travel - with extreme winter weather, airline strikes and now volcanoes disrupting flights, passengers have been on a rollercoaster ride.

  • 27 per cent of Brits have changed holiday plans to stay in the UK
  • 13 per cent have already planned a no-flight trip

With that in mind, polled over 1,000 visitors to its site to find out whether, due to all the disruptions, they have changed their holiday plans.

More than a quarter of those who responded (27 per cent) said they've changed their holiday plans to stay in the  UK, eight per cent are now taking a ferry, Eurostar or going on a cruise, whilst 13 per cent have already planned a no-flight trip.

Bob Atkinson, travel expert from, said: "Last year was the year of the 'staycation' however, with the level of airline industry turbulence customers have experienced over the last 6 - 12 months, it isn't hard to understand why people are again looking at changing their holiday plans to stay in the UK.

"The range of attractions and things to do within the UK is fantastic, there is something for everyone. From holiday parks to city breaks, countryside cottages to theatre breaks, the options are endless.

"For those of you who are flying this summer, just make sure you have adequate travel insurance.  I'm not sure what else the elements and travel industry can throw at us, but it's definitely best to be prepared rather than risk losing money, not to mention everything else travel insurance covers."
