Supermarkets are all about convenience – everything you need under one giant roof, and often at lower prices than you might find at smaller retailers. Indeed Tesco now applies its ‘every little helps’ policy to home insurance (also known as ‘house insurance’ or ‘household insurance’).

Tesco home insurance has a number of special offers. For example, until November 12, 2008, the company offered a £50 cashback deal to spend on anything you want. All new customers also get a 35% discount in the first year for buying online. By using its service, you can now choose between buildings insurance, contents insurance and a combination of the two with three grades of cover to choose from – standard, finest and value cover.

With Tesco home insurance finest cover, which has received a five-star rating from Defaqto, there is accidental damage included automatically as well as up to £35,000 to secure alternative accommodation if the worst happened. In terms of contents insurance, Tesco includes lock replacement cover for £1,000 or greater, home emergency cover included automatically, cover for loss of metered water and no compulsory contents excess.

Furthermore, there are a number of optional extras available. These include cover for central heating or boiler failure; an identity-fraud detection and assistance service; and a concierge service.
