HSBC describes itself as ‘the world‘s local bank’ with an international network that comprises more than 9,500 offices in 85 countries. To keep things easy for the consumer it aims to offer numerous services under one window, including home insurance (also known as ‘house insurance’ or ‘household insurance’).
HSBC offers both buildings and contents insurance with cover for buildings up to £350,000 and cover for contents up to £50,000. The company also offers three months free when you choose a HSBC home insurance policy with monthly payments.
HSBC home insurance includes new-for-old cover on all contents except clothes and household linen, as well as accommodation costs if your home is made uninhabitable by an insured cause. The company states that the majority of home insurance claims are settled over the phone without the need to complete a claims form.
HSBC contents insurance is automatically increased by £3,000 over the Christmas period with nothing added to the premium and there are no extra charges for paying by direct debit.
