Updated: Periodically. Details correct at the time of publication – May, 2007.
The Post Office has a rapidly expanding service, which stretches far beyond the delivery of your mail. The company has moved into the UK car insurance market and is keen to offer numerous incentives to prospective customers.
Until the end of April, 2007, Post Office car insurance (also known as ‘Post Office motor insurance’) offered a cash back scheme but this has now been replaced with a different offer – one month’s free insurance. Additionally, the Post Office claims to be one of the cheapest car insurance providers in the market as a comparative survey in January 2007 revealed that 59 per cent of customers would save an average of £79 by moving to its service.
There are three standards of car insurance cover available – third party, third party fire and theft and comprehensive cover. Its comprehensive cover has additional features including cover for vandalism, malicious damage, storm and flood damage; accidental damage, including windscreen and windows; new for old replacement vehicle if the car is less than 12 months old; medical expenses up to £200 and a three-year guarantee on repairs including parts and paint.
There are also additional cover options available such as breakdown cover with emergency call-out and free labour for the first hour; motor legal protection and payment protection insurance to cover installments in the event of an accident, sickness or involuntary unemployment.
