Do you remember the broadband providers NTL, Telewest and Virgin.net? Well now they have united under one umbrella - Virgin Media.

At its very formation, Virgin Media changed the broadband industry by becoming the very first internet service provider to offer quad play services. This means that it offers TV, broadband, phone and mobiles under one roof - and at the present time it remains the only UK provider to offer these four services.

Who is Virgin Media broadband ideal for?

Anyone looking to combine services into one simple monthly payment will be drawn towards the Virgin Media broadband range. In terms of its broadband only packages, size M will be sufficient for most users and unlimited downloads make it ideal for families. Those who want extra speed should consider paying more for either the broadband L or broadband XL package.

What do you need?

  • Virgin Media broadband can be accessed with either a fibre optic cable (on cable) or with a BT phone line (non cable).
  • A cable modem or router is required.
  • PC users require Windows 2000 pro or Windows XP.
  • Mac users require Mac OS 9.0+ (including OSX).

What else does Virgin Media have to offer?

The main attraction for Virgin Media is to combine services. Let’s take a look at their top of the range packages for each service area:

  • TV size XL - Includes more than 140 digital TV channels, Virgin TV on-demand and the V+ service.

Virgin TV on demand allows you to access more than 500 films (costing between £1.50 and £3.75 each time). The V+ service allows you to pause and rewind television or record two programmes while you watch a third.

  • Phone size XL - Includes unlimited anytime UK landline calls.
  • Virgin Mobile - A pay-as-you-go deal with up to 500 free texts and minutes along with a free 60mins airtime bonus if you take out one of the VIP packages.

Much will depend on your TV/phone/mobile habits as to which of these deals you opt for. However, with packages as low as 4 for £40 (the equivalent of £10 for each service) its clear there are large savings to be made and Sky has a true competitor in the TV/broadband sector.

poor service at too high a price

ive been far too generous giving 1 out of 10. I have been lied to over the phone, they even sent a debt letter, instead of the initial contact they lied about sending. My account was closed 3 days before they alledgedly emailed me, asking for a final disconnection fee. As my email account was suspended, it wouldnt have got to me, I would have received it if they tried, as I set up an email divert. One person said they were a paper free company, but complaints had to be in writing, to a different address who said they were not a paperless company, I wrote and the response ignored all my complaints. DONT TOUCH VIRGIN at all

I ordered Broadband and TV service. and when the technical guy comes they told me that it will takes 3 months to get connection. (even our next door have one) I confirm from the customer service and they told the same thing and I told them to cancel the order. cuz I don't want to wait for too long. They confirmed me. Next month they send me the bill fot first month. I called and told them here is no cable connnection then why you are charging. the guy say sorry we send the bill by error. Next month they send the bill thru Collection company with court warning. I called them again. after 40 minute bouncing between accounts and customer service departments, at last they told me that you have to pay this amount. And I paid. cuz I don't want time for court.

Rippoff @ todays market.

Above deal is offered by Virgin to attract more new customers, but nothing for Existing customers they got from Ntl, telewest etc. I am more tempted to quit. So many other offers via BT. Virgin is I think only after money. Tried talking to their customer services twice but it is like that Building Society advert of Nationwide. Existing customers does not mean anything to Virgin. Dissapointing.

No Problems with this excellent service

I have had dial up and now broadband with NTL and now Virginmedia. I have the package of telephone, TV and broadband. I only got the modem from Virgin free, but over a number of years I have found it reliable and well priced. I have two computers, both wireless running off a Dell router. Sometimes it is a bit slow, but the majority of the time, its runs freely and no problems at all.

Great price... the rest is sadly lacking

Virgin Media... fine if nothing goes wrong, if you don't need to contact them and if you don't have any questions or queries... And lets face it, sometimes things do go wrong. There is no telephone number you can call to get through to someone who can actually help you and getting passed around departments seems to be a company sport with these guys. Virgin WERE good... Virgin Media are a massive let down. I wouldn't recommend this company anymore: even to people I don't like so much!
