Toucan is part of the Pipex group after a takeover in 2007. However, its philosophies remain the same having built up an enviable relationship with its customers due to ease of use and value for money. Toucan is all about converging services into one simple monthly bill - and this is reflected with the savings that can be made through its broadband and phone deals (which are actually cheaper than the stand-alone products in its range).

The Toucan broadband name has been retained because it has a strong reputation and the packages on offer continue to offer real variety and choice to two groups of broadband users - new users fresh off a dial-up deal; and users who want super-fast broadband speeds.

Who is Toucan broadband ideal for?

As there are no set download restrictions, though a fair use policy does apply, Toucan is recommended for large families who share a broadband connection and for heavy users who are online throughout the day. Your choice is based on speed and the phone package you are interested in - there are large savings to be made with all of the Toucan broadband deals.

What do you need?

You will require a phone line and a USB modem or router (modem is included).

If you have a PC you will need:

  • 30Mb of free disc space
  • With Windows 98SE/ME: A Pentium processor 166MHz or compatible with a minimum of 32Mb of memory.
  • With Windows 2000/XP: A Pentium II processor or compatible with a minimum of 64Mb of memory.

If you have a Mac you will need:

  • Mac OS 8.6 and Mac OS 9.x: 640Kb of free disc space.
  • Mac OS X v10.1: 121Mb of free disc space.
  • Mac OS X v10.2, v10.3 and v10.4: 21Mb of free disc space.

What else does Toucan have to offer?

Toucan boasts that its line rental is the lowest advertised in the UK. Broadband benefits include a free modem, 90-day virus software trial, 25Mb of webspace and online account management.

It should be noted that currently the Speedtouch modem does not support PCs that have been upgraded from Windows XP to Visa - though it does support new PCs with Windows Vista.

Generally, Toucan's range is competitive and its unlimited downloads will attract families, businesses and heavy internet users to take advantage of its competitive broadband and phone packages.

* Fair use policy applies.

CUSTOMER SERVICE - WHATS THAT?

Don't go there, it really isn't worth the hassle. I have had 512k since Nov 05 but when I went ex directory they wanted me to take another 12 months contract out because it is a different number. So now trying desparately trying to get a MAC to go to another provider but they keep giving me a MAC associated with my old number. Despite numerous phone calls I am still waiting. Even when I get messages to call them back and you get talk to them, they say its the House Moving Department whom need to speak to you and at the moment they are not taking calls! They will call you back in 24/48 hours. Apparantly, they have a different system. So no matter how many times you call, they just don't pass on any details, even when they tell you they do. One good piece of info, AVOID LIKE THE PLAGUE

Worst Ever Broadband Company

Toucan is the rudest most unhelpful company l have had the misfortune to deal with. They run a blocking system with complaints-the agent you speak to cannot deal with your complaint and you are not allowed to speak to anyone that can and being told you will be called back -that never, ever happens. In the meantime you are cut off both phone abd broadband unless you pay up (l told them l needed my phone as my son was in Iraq, to which l was told "well pay your bill then". This was highly upsetting particularly as the query was with my broadband. This kind of non-service continues to this day when having written to them saying the contract would not be re-newed and receiving a confirmation l am still receiving bills 18 months late. No amount of phone calls will stop them, letters are ign

Email is bog basic . Anti-spam function in name only. I had to pay for 'Clear-my-mail' to get rid of the 40+ obscene messages I now suffer DAILY.

Rubbish

Added 25/02/2008, reviewed by anonymous (Cwmbran)

I set up my broadband with Toucan after being promised unlimited downloads, cheap prices etc. from day one we had problems with customer services, not calling back, the people you spoke to being unable to deal with the enquiries that you had, wrong billing the list was endless. After months of negotiation I was eventually offered as a good will gesture to stay with the company, discounted rates for 12months an upgrade to my broadband and a free sim card with unlimited texts. Against my better judgement I thought I would give them a second chance and accepted, unknowingly, as this was not mentioned I had entered into further 12, and 18month contracts. I still have crap broadband usually around 1-1.5mb speed a sim card it will cost me more than I use in a year to change over on my phone.....

We have been tied into a toucan contract for a year during which we have probably been online for a total of 5 hrs. Calls to customer service cost 30p\min and acheive nothing except more income for toucan. Save time and money go with someone else!
