Tiscali was formed in January 1998 and is thought to be named after a small village in Sardinia. However, there was nothing small about its internet operation which attracted vast interest when it entered the market and has expanded to be the fourth most popular broadband service in all of the UK.

One of the reasons Tiscali broadband has been able to grow is because it has met changing consumer demands by merging broadband with phone services and most recently introducing a television deal. On top of all this, Tiscali has remained one of the most economical providers around and offers some of the most cost-effective monthly deals on broadband-only and, at the time of its launch, the broadband, phone and TV deal was the cheapest in the UK.

Who is Tiscali broadband ideal for?

The beauty of these Tiscali broadband deals is that all download capacities are unlimited* meaning your choice is based on the speed you require. The 8Mb deals are best for those who want a little extra. There are large savings to be made by picking a bundle deal, particularly if you take advantage of one of the TV packages which are currently the cheapest in the UK.

What do you need?

To set up your Tiscali broadband connection you will receive a Tiscali installation pack - which includes the following for free:

  • A broadband modem.
  • Two broadband micro filters with RJ11 cable to connect to your broadband filter.
  • USB data cable to connect to your computer.
  • CD installation software.
  • Set-up instructions.

So all you will need is a phone line supplied by BT.

What else does Tiscali have to offer?

Tiscali does offer 'extra' broadband deals for 8Mb packages. These come with added features such as 500Mb of storage space and 150Mb of webspace. However, for the majority of users, the regular deals will be best as they are less expensive and cover most user needs.

The Tiscali TV deals are attracting a lot of interest in the broadband market currently as they include innovative technology such as on-demand programming and the FX catch-up service. There is plenty to enjoy on the on-demand service too including well-established programmes such as Dr Who, Friends, Casualty and more. The TV variety pack incorporates channels such as Sky One, Paramount and ITV2.

I accidently came across these reviews, and I'm shocked!! I have been with Tiscali since Sept '06 and have found them very good. I pay £19.99 for 8mb broadband, Anytime calls and line rental. Whenever I have had a problem and called them, I have never waited long for my call to be answered and the problem has always been sorted first time....a couple of weeks ago my broadband slowed so much it was worse than dial-up, I called them, they checked the line, passed it to their technical dept and said someone would call me back within 24 hours....and that's exactly what happened and it was sorted and back to normal the next day. Surely there must be more like me? Anyone?.......

Easy wired set-up - wireless won't work!

Received wireless router last week - set up wired connection in 20 mins - service excellent! Problems began when trying to set-up wireless connection on second PC - cannot configure wireless adaptor. 1.25 hours at 10p a minute to technical dept + email detailing problem which only returned what can only be described as untillegible guff - and a week later still cannot connect. Really frustrating part is a search on the net reveals that this is an ongoing problem that Tiscali know about and should have rectified - but obviously haven't. Currently promised a call back within 24 hours - have just rung Tiscali billing and promised to return all items to then and cancel DD if problem not resolved by end of tomorrow. Best advice - use another provider!

POOR SERVICE AT A GREAT PRICE!

JOINED TISCALI JAN 08 TOOK THEIR ANYTIME TALK BUNDLE 19.99 INCLUDES LINE RENTAL. ABUSED THE PHONE THOUGHT IT WAS FREE ONLY TO GET A BILL FROM BT LAST MONTH FOR 100 QUID. APPARENTLY MY CALLS AND LINE WERE NEVER TAKEN BY TISCALI THE REQUEST WAS MADE BUT NEVER COMPLETED. HAD TO PAY BT THEIR MONEY, AM FURIOUS NOW TRYING TO GET MONEY BACK OFF TISCALI. I DONT SEE HOW TISCALI CAN SAY I AM IN 12 MONTH CONTRACT WITH THEM WHEN I HAVE NEVER GOT WHAT I SIGNED UP FOR SINCE DAY ONE. ABSOLUTE JOKE AND I WONT EVEN GO INTO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SIDE OF THINGS OR I WILL BE HERE ALL NIGHT. WRITING THIS.

worse than a chocolate tea pot!!!

got tiscalli on friday, set up as per disc and it keeps dropping connection, phoned them and struggled to understand the operator who i think told me settings wrong so went through set up of modem still no different, they arranged technical to call betwen 6pm and 9 pm when im at home, so they called at 4pm when im out but still tried to get me to go into router settings !!!!!!!!, he did not understand im not at my pc, called back later then got put to technial who said to get another router and would call back the following day at so i did, no difference and no phone call, i called technical and another failed call back at 2pm so i cancelled it at 3pm, technical then called me at 3.30 after cancelation what a joke avoid like the plague!!!

OMG - What a nightmare

We have broadband from Tiscali for several months before moving house and we notified them, they were unable to ever connect the service but it took 4 months for them to realise this. Hours (truthfully) hours spent on their telephone lines trying to get it sorted out - they charge you for every minute on th line and I didn't once get through without a 20 min wait on hold. Again foriegn call centres are so bad for communication, tried to identify a worker so that I had a reference for the conversation and they advised her first name and that she was 400 miles north of Bombay. Difficult to relate to that. Tiscali have a structure where after 2 reminders for payment you automatically go to a debt collection agency!! They will not call or write to you but sell your debt to another firm.
