At a time when the broadband market is overrun with special deals and slogans such as 'free' and 'unlimited' broadband, one provider bucks the trend by proudly promoting its honest approach to broadband marketing while at the same time striving to offer value for money.

The provider in question is Madasafish, part of the Brightview Group, established in 2001. The company also speaks proudly about the quality of customer services with support technicians fully trained for both Windows PCs and Macs. In 2006 the company scooped the best heavy consumer broadband award at the Internet Service Provider Awards (ISPAs).

As an established provider of line rental, Madasafish can also offer large savings for phone calls made if you choose to tie in one of its Talk plans with your broadband subscription.

Who is Madasafish broadband ideal for?

Madasafish broadband packages are suitable for all types of users - although most will prefer the MAX broadband deal, which is the cheapest in the range. With a capacity of 5Gb/month it is more than adequate for most users while allowing you to enjoy super-fast internet speeds.

What do you need?

  • You must have a non-cable phone line.
  • All Madasafish packages include a free home wireless networking kit - the DSL-924.
  • For those with a Windows PC, you must have Windows 2000 or higher, with a minimum of a Pentium 350MHz processor or equivalent with an available Ethernet port.
  • If you have a Mac you must have an available Ethernet port and it must be an IMac G3, Powerbook G3 or above, running OSX 10.1 or above.

What else does Madasafish have to offer?

There are a number of bonus features for Madasafish subscribers including unlimited email addresses, free webmail, 100Mb of webspace, a free Static IP address and a trial version of BullGuard security suite.

The free wireless networking kit comes with every package, as does a free connection. You can also choose to move your line rental over to Madasafish to capitalise on its Talk Free and Talk Anytime offers. Talk free has unlimited weekend and evening calls to UK landlines beginning with 01 and 02; while Talk Anytime has unlimited calls to UK landlines (again beginning with 01 and 02) at any time.

Madasafish broadband clearly has vast appeal to anyone wishing to combine their services and pay both their broadband and phone charges with one simple bill. However, even if you are looking for a broadband-only deal Madasafish is well worth consideration thanks to its cost-effective packages, the wide range of choice available and its refreshing honesty and attitude towards its customers.

No problems

I'm one of the ones who wrote a ranty review about TalkTalk so maybe I'm overenthusiastic about trouble-free provision! I don't download much and don't really ask for much from broadband other than for it to be there when I need to use it. Madasafish have provided a trouble-free service to me; on one occasion even ringing me to apologise that the service was down when I wasn't aware that it was. I used to use broadband quite sporadically but it's been in daily use for a couple of months and I haven't noticed any difference/problems occurring now. I would, and do, recommend this service to anyone - my personal experience has been 100% satisfactory.

Thinking of changeing

Broadband Ratings

I have been with madasafish since it was jings and owned by iomart, then Brightview, now Plusnet and BT. Converted from dialup to broadband in 05. Had varying speeds over the years sometimes diabolically slow but ok most of the time at least for my needs. Am 2 miles from the exchange so it is a long line. This year kept getting dropped line - contacted and got web based support and someone in Romania who was very good. Eventually said I needed a engineer to visit and new master socket - initially going to charge c.£170 but told them didn't have the money and they came and did it for free - so that was very good. Now have a problem hitting 5GB download limit and £2 charges for every extra GB so considering changing.

Great Speed.......

Broadband Ratings

Have been with them for around 2 years. During this time the speed has increased from around 2mb to 6mb so am very happy with that. Have had hardly any problems with dropped connections, I can leave my work pc swtiched on and come back 3 days later and its still connected to the encrypted work servers so I know it has not suffered a dropped connection. The only problems I had were due to my Mac losing connection, not the broadband. Billing is hassle free, get a montly email. Would happily recommend them.

Don't believe all the bad reviews

Added 29/08/2009, reviewed by Bruce (Herstmonceux)

Broadband Ratings

I've been with Madasafish for about a year and a half now. I've had a couple of technical problems, very slow speed and no connection, both times it has been the fault of BT at the local exchange. After a couple of phone calls the support staff were able to identify the cause and fix the problems. I'm on an 8 Mb service and the speed is constantly at around 5Mb which is good considering I'm out in the sticks I would be happy to recommend Madasafish.

Went off

Added 23/08/2009, reviewed by Tom (Nantwich)

Broadband Ratings

Moved to Madasafish from expensive BT about 2 1/2 years ago. Initially offered good package, with reasonable customer support, but tech support always limited. Poor understanding of Macs, despite advertised expertise. Bought out by BT a while ago, and went off rapidly, with increased costs, and dreadful unreliable service. Tech service and customer services inaccessible. Not recommended. Now moved again.
