With so many cheap broadband deals to choose from, more and more consumers are looking beyond the pricing to find the best deal and instead putting the emphasis on customer service. After all, the cheapest is not always the best and the aim for most customers is to find a provider that is both cheap and reliable.

Eclipse Internet broadband certainly fits that bill and it has a list of accolades to prove it. The provider won the Best Consumer Broadband at the ISPAs in 2007 and was also highly acclaimed at the PC Pro Awards for its reliability and service. These aren’t one-off awards for the company either - it has been earning recognition year in and year out and is one of the most highly acclaimed broadband providers in the moneysupermarket.com forums.

The company was actually established in 1996 when it offered dial-up services. It moved into the broadband market in 2001 and is now owned by Kingston Communications PLC.

Currently, there are two residential broadband packages to choose from at Eclipse.

Who is Eclipse Internet broadband ideal for?

Anyone who wants a highly-recommended broadband provider with proven consistent quality of customer service should take a look at the Eclipse range. All types of users are catered for across the four options of the two packages - with Option One on home broadband being adequate for most light home users and Option Four better suited to large families or heavy users.

What do you need?

  • A BT phone line.
  • A USB modem or a wireless router - all Eclipse Internet packages come with a free router and Option Four includes a free wireless router.
  • PC users require Windows Millennium 2000 or above while Mac users need 8/9 or higher, or Mac OSX.

What else does Eclipse Internet have to offer?

Eclipse has a host of incentives including free anti-virus and spam protection along with free email addresses, webspace and an online account to keep track of your service. Eclipse also offers phone savings too, as customers of its broadband packages can sign up to Eclipse TalkMore and enjoy unlimited calls starting at just £5.99/month.

Set-up for all Eclipse Internet packages is free and contracts last for twelve months. There is also the freedom to move between the options for each product - so for example, if you start out with Option One but feel you need a higher download limit you can easily move to Option Two, etc.

Despite all of the awards, the most notable praise for Eclipse Internet comes from their consumers themselves. So if you're not happy with your current service check out these Eclipse offers and move to one of the most reliable providers around.

Avoid Eclipse by any means

Joined about a year ago and still waiting for the contract end to exit from a poor service and a very slow Internet. Frequent interruptions without explaining any reason, speed is just above 1Mbps when the packet called 8 Mbps (my line can handle up to 6.5 Mbps). Silly excuses. Changes to the contract conditions on the fly. AVOID THIS COMPANY.

Only good things to say about Eclipse

I've been with Eclipse since 02 & would, & have, recommend them to anyone. I have worked in the IT services industry for over a decade & have dealt with a number of ISP’s. Trust me Eclipse are 1 of the best out there. Their tech support on the whole is very good, 1 or 2 of the 1st line support techies are bad, but 95% I’ve spoken are on the ball. I’ve seen people complaining about slow speeds, you have to take this with a pinch of salt. When I worked for a dotcom, they ran 16 job search websites 500K hits /month, email & web browsing over a 2MB connection. The average household should be able 2 manage with 1MB connection. Most of the people who complain about speed issues are dabblers who think they know what they’re talking about. Trust me Eclipse is a good ISP 4 home & especially 4 business.

Terra-Bad Steer Well Clear.

I Joined them 4 years ago, service used to be excellent, went downhill steadily from 2006, now in 2008 I am writing this on a connection which is achieving a maximum down throughput of 52kb/sec (On their Premium 8mb unlimited Evolution 4 full QoS £32/Mo package). Referred a number of friends to use them years ago, never saw any of the money they promise for 'refer a friend' and they didn't want to know about it afterwards. I have certification from Cisco systems to network and have worked for 4 ISP's (believe me, none of the technical support team at eclipse have an awful lot of an idea what exactly it is they should be doing). Don't do yourself the injustice of dealing with these clowns.

Not as good as they once were

Added 26/04/2008, reviewed by anonymous (Birmingham)

Broadband Ratings

I've been with Eclipse for many years and until recently have been satisfied with the service. They were taken over by Kingston Communications, and since then, I have noticed their service seems to be run by accountants, rather than being customer focussed. Paying by credit card now carries a surcharge - and the phonelines are now chargeable (they used to be 01... numbers which I get free on my tariff - now they're 0845 numbers which cost 3p+ per minute). The service has gaps (lately, my email has gone down for 30 minutes every so often - and speeds can deteriorate at any time of day - especially in the afternoon). Having said all this, I'm just afraid of jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire - just hope that they get their act together soon or I will have to jump!
