Appalling for Mac users

Added 07/05/2008, reviewed by stuart (manchester)

I spent over 4 hours on the phone to the service centre trying to get the new USB modem working on a brand new macbook. Impossible. Each time the service centre ask innane and repetitive questions to script without any real understanding of the problem. It even takes 45mins to cancel! According to the 3 shop assistants they are having real problems with their new dongles and Macs. Beware. It is a total waste of time.

Word of warning !!

As megafast connection speeds are not needed, I cannot knock this broadband solution and certainly for sheer convenience, it is a brilliant stand alone solution. However, there is a sting in the tail - monitor your usage and if you think you will go over your monthly allowance, upgrade at the first opportunity. I took out the "Lite" package, at £10/ month for 1 MB. This was great for the first three months, as I did not get near to the limit. A change of domestic circumstance meant that by month four I was using the connection quite a lot more. The result was a usage of 1.9 MB and a total charge of £99 !!!!! So, £10 for 1MB, £89 for 0.9MB - robbery is nowhere near strong enough, especially when a 3MB connection is only £15/ month !!!

Can't complain for £5 per month!

Added 01/05/2008, reviewed by anonymous (london)

Broadband Ratings

I already have a 3 mobile phone, noticed that their current 3mobile broadband is half-off for existing customers, so went for it. For £5 per month over 18 months, the modem's free & I have wireless broadband at home... AND away. yey! Customer service folks were responsive. No 10/10 only 'cos menuing on the 0870 number was nuts & it took me forever to find a human. Billing & Tech Support REALLY get no score -- I've not interacted with them. Placed my order at about 3pm yesterday, received the modem this morning before 9am. Way to go, Royal Mail!!! Installed the modem & got online pronto, no problems. Speed is same/better than existing BT wireless. Can't fault it. MAKE SURE YOU'RE IN A TURBO AREA before signing up. I'm thinking it may make all the difference.

Not a Bad little number

even although i have home broadband i wanted something to give me freedom, liked the idea of pay as you go, got my modem and was up and running in 15 minutes, great, unlike my house provider sky, cant get wireless in some rooms so 3 comes in handy, and its almost as fast as the sky package, sometimes faster, a great little piece of equipment, only had one bad evening of speed, wondered if weather conditions effected it, and like one of the other reviews it can be hard work to use all your download . Get it and use it as a alternative and reserve

Use your own 3 mobile as modem

Added 01/03/2008, reviewed by craig (wolverhampton)

i've used 3 broadband for over 6 months now with no problems.I use my own 3 mobile phone in the same way as that little white usb modem they are selling now. If you have a contract mobile phone with 3 (i use nokia n80) you will also have a cd disc and a usb data lead in your box the phone came with. install the disc on your pc/laptop(just follow on screen prompts) contact 3 mobile and tell them you want to add 'internet broadband lite' (£10 for 1gb data or £15 for 3 gb) This amount will be added onto your bill monthly and you can cancel at any month so you dont have to have another contract for a seperate usb modem. Its advisable when using your phone as the modem to keep it on charge or have a spare battery though. I'm not sure if you can do this on pay as you go as i am on contract.
