Moneysupermarket.com has received a leading industry award from Hitwise, an online monitoring service, for being the number one insurance website in 2007.

Moneysupermarket received more visits from people looking for insurance than any other UK website last year, reaffirming consumer confidence in the brand.

Andy Leadbetter, head of home and motor insurance at Moneysupermarket, said: "This is a fantastic achievement and we feel very proud to have won this award. Our principal aim is to save consumers time and money and this award shows that an increasing number of people recognise and appreciate the value of the service we offer. We are the leading comparison site but with stiff competition, we are striving to make things even better to ensure we remain number one."

A recent survey carried out by independent market research group, Ipsos Mori, found moneysupermarket.com to be best for car insurance after it returned the cheapest quotes on nearly twice as many profiles than its nearest rival.

And last week, moneysupermarket.com launched customer reviews on its motor insurance channel, enabling people to compare more than just price when searching for an insurer.

Leadbetter added: "Price is obviously a very important consideration when looking for insurance, but it is not the only factor to be taken into account. We believe customer reviews will enable those looking for insurance to make a better-informed decision. While at the moment, this facility is only available for car insurance, it is something we will be rolling out to other insurance channels in the future."
