Would moving from a new job after a short while be ok?

Dear experts I know this may sound silly but I would appreciate some advice. I've worked all my working life in the care field both private and NHS. Recently it's been decided to go over to a private care provider and there is still a lot to be ironed out including the terms and conditions. Redundancy is unlikely but has not be ruled out.I'm looking actively for another job as thus far have attended a few interviews but been unlucky and have been shortlisted for other care jobs which will be dependent on an interview and how it goes on the day. I still would love to work in the NHS and as such have submitted an application in of which the deadline is early May ie, if I haven't heard from them by then I will be deemed unsucessful.

Tempting fate I might not get any! but if I was to take a better paid job and low and behold I was lucky to get the other NHS job. Could I resign say after 3-4 weeks and move on. I know it sounds to some unethical but lawfully could I get penalised in wages or bad references?

    Regards,

    Paul

Hi ---- As long as you give the correct amount of notice according to your contract... if or when you move, then it is not unethical, it's looking after you're own interests.

Oh ...providing you do give the correct noitice, then you will not be penalised financially or be given bad references.

hi paul,as you cmk has given techincally sound advice

although i would say the actual length of notice required in your contract can often mean didly squat,

as long as you leave of your own accord and provide a written explanation of your reason for leaving then you will be ok regardless you will be paid for the hours you work, they cant penalise you and say you wont get paid because they cant not pay you for work you do,that my freind would be a breach of various employment laws and statutary rights as a employee.

as for bad reference, that depends on what questions the company asks, your previous company cant give you a bad reference unless they have very good reason i.e you were sacked for fraud etc.

It would be libelous of them to give you a bad reference just because you didnt leave within their standard notice terms, they merely say that you worked their and maybe they will provide details of number of sickness days etc.

that is about it as far as what they can and cant say.

if you have a good working relationship with your boss, they should let you leave whenever you want.

Ive just left my job after 4 years of service and i left within 2-3 weeks which was less than standard notice but it could have been earlier if it wasnt my birthday on the first week they wanted me to start my new job.
