we have a new netto, what a waste of time

just recently we have had a netto open, promising all these special offers!

now i dont shop in netto, as its too basic for me, but thats not the point.

we get the leaflets delivered every week, saying that offers start on thursday, low and behold, you go in on thursday, and there is none.

now i did go into the store for someone the other day, and was speaking to the checkout lady, saying that its pathetic that they never have the offers in store, she said, they do get the offers in, but they usually get delivered on a tues or wednesday, and because they havent got room to store them they put them straight out.  bit of false advertising there!  was thinking of complaining to the trading standards, but seeing as i dont go there, i'll leave it to someone else!

also, the area where i live has a lot of elderly people. and they need somewhere local to shop, so they were all very excited (bless em) about getting the new netto, how dissapointed my gran was to go in to see that they dont cater for elderly people, (meaning every tin is a massive one, and most elderly people buy small tins of food)

also, they stack the food that high that my gran is scared that something may fall on her.  now my gran is a fiesty lady and didnt think twice about telling the manager what she thought of the new netto!

Sounds like the same set up as lidl. You either commit to getting the odd very good value offer in bulk per week, assuming that's what you want that week, or don't bother. Some of the standard very cheap stuff is very cheap for a reason. I remember paying a few pence for a tin of mackerel which when I opened it was like sludge and only fit for the bin.

Actually, I quite like Lidl and Aldi, though I am careful what I buy there.  Never been in a Netto, though.

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

I think the lack of proper shelving is meant to save costs and be part of Netto's offering as supposedly the cheapest of the discount supermarkets, but as you say it's clearly inconvenient to navigate, especially if stuff is high up and you're not very tall/without big muscles as older people often are!  As for the sludge tin of mackerel, some people just eat to survive I suppose rather than for enjoyment!

What are the best buys in Netto if anyone knows, and please comment on the quality of the product not just the price!

     Cheers

LOL Shirley, I have to agree

Netto is far to basic for me and always seems very, erm, dirty - it's the only word I can see to use.

I prefer a much wider choice and a better quality of food rather than cheap food that is of bad quality.

IMHO Netto offers only the latter

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

I used to live just round the corner from a netto, and at the time money was tight so I was very happy to shop there at the time.

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

I used to do a lot of shopping in the local Kwik Save when I was struggling.  That was some years ago.

These days, I am struggling again, and yet I do not feel I want to shop in Kwik Save or Netto, but I do use Lidl and occasionally Aldi.

I shop in Asda for clothes - mine and the kids' - and takeaway curry - but I won't buy meat from anywhere but Sainsburys.  Tesco food is pretty good and their clothing range isn't bad either, though they never seem to have my size in some of the lovely tops they do (must get slimmer, I guess).

I want to get into the habit of shopping regularly at Lidl to stock up on basics, then supplementing this with purchases from Asda and Sainsburys (also a good clothing line).  But I am just not organised enough and end up grabbing bits here and there depending on where I am.

Someone start a 'tips for organised shopping' thread.

Re: we have a new netto, what a waste of time

Netto had a special offer on Gale's honey a couple of years back, and I like honey so I went to Netto and bought lots of honey from Netto. I got 54 jars but on the way home the carrier bag broke and all the honey jars got smashed on the pavement. I thought it would be a shame for all that honey to go to waste so I scooped as much of it up as I could into my trouser pockets. On the way home I got chased by a swarm of wasps and got stung all over my trouser area and had to jump into the canal.

    Yes we have DD.  LOL

If Unclevinnie didn't drown I wonder what happened to the trouser area.  Can't be very comfortable being stung in your nether region by so many wasps!!!

If you ever seen anyone smelling of honey and walking with a limp then you'll know it's him!!!  LOL
