    Travel Insurance

    I have two questions :-)

Why can I not cover my step Son on a family insurance policy? Whilst he does not live with us permenantly he does stay with us a lot and comes on holiday with us.

Also, we are going on a large family holiday to France between Christmas and New Year (with my step Son) to a Ski resort. However we will not be Skiing, do I need Winter Sports Cover? I have read the policy's but they seem to concentrate on Ski Equipment, Piste closure etc.

Many thanks for any help :-)

    Re: Travel Insurance

    Hi MSS

The discounted rate that is given for children on a family policy is only applicable to 'dependent' children. If a child is not living with the insured adults then, for the purpose of travel insurance, they are not deemed to be dependent on them.

As long as you are not participating in any kind of sporting activity then there is no reason that you cannot have a standard travel insurance policy just because you are in an area with snow. However, whilst skiing is not on your agenda there may be other activities that you or your family may want to take part in that insurers will consider a Winter Sports risk. If there is anything that you are planning to do then it would be worth checking this out with your chosen provider. Whilst the Winter Sports cover does give you additional benefits such as Piste Closure and Equipment Cover it also extends the Medical Expenses section to cover your activities.

    Hope this helps.
